Calvin Klein offers to design Melania’s inauguration gown if no one else will

Inauguration day now looms a mere month away, and you can count Calvin Klein in should he get the call to serve incoming first lady Melania Trump‘s fashion needs.

The out designer told TMZ that “of course” he’d design a gown for Melania if nobody else would. His willingness to participate stands in contrast to other designers like Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Christian Siriano, Sophie Theallet and Humberto Leon, all of whom have all said they will not work with the Trumps.

“Personally, I’d rather put my energy into helping out those who will be hurt by [Donald] Trump and his supporters,” said Jacobs, while Siriano went on the record saying he and the incoming first lady “don’t share the same values.”

However, calls on social media to boycott the Calvin Klein brand have largely failed to mention that Klein sold his namesake company to American clothing giant PVH in 2002.

Klein aside, Trump’s camp is having a heck of a time finding talent for his final victory lap. Elton John said no to the gig, despite aides to the president-elect spreading news he’d said yes. Garth Brooks, who performed at President Obama’s 2009 ceremony, also declined to make an appearance.

The only confirmed performer is 16-year-old America’s Got Talent runner-up Jackie Evancho, who we hope is fully aware that “2017 Trump inauguration” will come up whenever anyone Googles her name for years to come.

To make matters potentially more embarrassing, a Change.org petition is urging stars to organize a counter-concert on inauguration day in protest.

“Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a concert and telethon to raise funds for various progressive causes?  It would air starting early on January 20th to compete directly with the inauguration,” writes Trish Gilbert, who started the petition.

“I envision a televised and streaming on the internet ‘Freedom United Concert’ with YUGE celebrities like: Beyoncé & Jay Z, Madonna, Katy Perry, Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, The Dixie Chicks, Neil Young, Lady Gaga, The Cast of Hamilton, The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, The Harlem Gospel Choir and many others.”

Trish also dreams of Alec Baldwin hosting the event in full Donald drag, a la his Saturday Night Live impression, which we must admit has a certain poetry to it.

The petition has received over 47,000 signatures.
