I’m really startled by a lot of the decisions made in the reboot. You know, it’s a television product, done with Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker, who have both worked with HBO a lot in the past. HBO decided to put this franchise back into their hands for a variety of reasons, and this is what they came up with.
…I mean, Carrie Bradshaw ended up being a quirky woman who married a really rich guy. And that’s not my story, or any of my friends’ stories. But TV has its own logic.”Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell when asked by the New Yorker about all the woke straight whiteness in And Just Like That.

It’s her diplomatic way of stating the obvious that AJLT sucks
BarryM
I agree. AJLT stinks.
Caine
Yes AJLT was SO good. The documentary is really good too. I can’t wait for season 2. Season 3. Season 4, 5 & 6. BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!!!! Go SJP!!!

This headline bears no relation to the actual Bushnell quote. Do better.

Agreed! If you read the full quote, in fact, she praises the diversity that the show brought as more reflective of NYC and her experiences.

For years to come, comedians will be starting jokes with “the polarizing And Just Like That…” and the audience will dutifully shout “How polarizing was it?”

The title of this post is wildly misleading. There were hundreds of other titles that would have been more interesting and that actually reflected the tone and point of the original article, but, this wasn’t one of them.

I didn’t see anything in her quote that related to the headline.

It’s really difficult to like Queerty when you waste time posting a fake headline so we click on something as stupid as what she said. She wrote Carrie Bradshaw as a young, drug-using, partying New Yorker, not a 50-something, mature woman, so comment on something she didn’t even depict in her book? Bushnell is also a horrible writer who’s lucky “Sex and the City” was repurposed into the legendary series it is.

To me the main thing here is that I’m 61, and apparently I’m supposed to understand what “straight woke whiteness” means. Candace didn’t say that, Queerty did. I never watched Sex and the City, I’m not its demographic, and so I was absolutely not interested in its reboot either. I guess it’s just as well. Wouldn’t want to get infected with “straight woke whiteness,” for heaven’s sake!
