Air Force Captain Devery L. Taylor has been found guilty of raping four men and attempting to rape two others. Apparently the nine-person jury didn’t buy his account, namely: he had consensual sex with five of the men and the sixth raped him. For her part, Taylor’s lawyer said Taylor’s only crime was being gay and breaking Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. The men, however, say he’s guilty of much more than that – they said Taylor drugged them and tried to take advantage of them.
Now that he’s been found guilty of such a vile violation, Taylor can look forward to some quiet time behind bars. While certainly we’re happy whenever a rapist gets what he or she deserves, we’re a little sad about this story – we imagine that Taylor probably wouldn’t have gone to such desperate measures if the military allowed gays to openly serve. But, it doesn’t and Taylor raped four men and now he’s going to jail. Maybe this will help reverse Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell or, of course, it could just reinforce negative stereotypes about gays in the military. Only time will tell…
As for Taylor’s punishment – he faces a maximum of life behind bars. Sentencing begins today…

Your statement:
“…found guilty of raping for men and attempting to rape two others.”
should read:
“..found guilty of raping FOUR men and …”
You’re getting sloppy boys.

I see so many holes in this story. Is he the only guilty one? It reads like a story of boys gone wild that were caught and now they’re all trying to cover their asses.

Penny,
Great comment. So, if a man raped 4 women and then said that they all wanted, would that be okay with you? Get real. Read the facts of the case. Why would 4 strangers all come forward with the same story? Why would this guy then accuse one of the victims of raping him?
Ugh! What the hell? Do you know what the statistics are on rape in this country? One of four girls and one of six boys is a victim of sexual assault in the United States.
Do you think it was easy for the victims to testify in court about their experience of being drugged, brutalized, and waking up to the realization that they had been raped? Why do some gay men chuckle and laugh at male rape with a wink and nod that it was just a case of closet case regretting his decision. Wouldn’t it make more sense not to say anything than do have to drag one’s friends and family into court to watch the testimony?

Rape statistics are crazy in the USA. One of the problems is that there is little research on male rape. Are there even any statistics on male rape and specifically homosexual rape?

If “rape” means having to have sex with someone you don’t want to have sex with, Jesus,I think I’ve been raped about amllion times

I have read a lot about this case, and I really don’t think the guy is guilty. GHB was cited by the prosecution as the “date rape drug” that was used on all of the “victims”. Tests for the drug were performed on all of the “victims” and all the tests were negative. According to one source I found, Taylor’s home, car, and computer were tested for traces of the substance and all were negative. He never searched for any information about the drug online. Yet, the judge in the case still allowed the prosecution to say the men were drugged with GHB and the effects of the drug were described to the jury. All of the men met Taylor at a bar, yet none of the men passed out at the bar where they were drugged. GHB (which used to be sold at health food stores as a fast acting “natural” sleep aid) acts very quickly (between 10 and 60 minutes depending on food in the stomach according to online sources). None of the so called “victims” was carried out of the bar where they met Taylor. Only one of the men reported what supposedly happened until after the approached them. The stories that the men told reek of witness coaching. An earlier poster claimed that the men wouldn’t have lied about what happened, but consider that the men in the military would lose their careers, benefits, and spouses (for those that were married) if they admitted consenting to sex with Taylor. ALL of them would have been identified as persons who willingly consented to homosexual acts to the media instead of being portrayed as victims. It all looks more than a little fishy if you stop and examine the story and look at possible motivations for the so-called victims to lie.
