Carson Daly Meets With GLAAD Over Flight Comments, Apologizes Again

After issuing a quick Twitter mea culpa yesterday, Carson Daly has done the LGBT community one better and met with GLAAD.

Daly originally joked: ““Most of the people [on board] were on their way to some sort of security conference in Las Vegas. It was, like, a bunch of dudes and well-trained dudes, thank God. With my luck, it would be like, this is the flight going to [gay Pride] in San Francisco… I mean, that would be my colleagues.”

Post-GLAAD meeting, he issued a longer statement:

We live in a time where gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals find courage every day to overcome adversity, stand up to bullying and find equality. I’m truly saddened that my words today suggested otherwise. I’ve long been a supporter of gay, lesbian, and transgender rights, and I’m saddened that my comments, however unintentional, offended anyone, specifically members of the LGBT community.

The fact that I have hurt anyone is devastating. I’m not that guy. I’m proud to be an ally of the LGBT community and will continue to fight with them.

What do you guys think?  Should we accept Daly’s apology at face value or make him walk the plank?

By saying, “The fact that I have hurt anyone is devastating,” he continues to apologize for feelings, NOT for actions. Carson, own up. Try, “What I did was wrong, flat out, plain stupid, inconsiderate, and I took advantage of marginalized people to profit by humor at their expense.”

Let’s pick our battles. Carson Daly is not the enemy. You really need to call him a “douche”, fuck him and tell him to own up? What does he need to do? Host an LGBT fundraiser? Give money to GLAAD? Some other PR stunt? Lay off and chill out.

It depends on what he’s like outside that comment, and I for one can’t even remember where I’d heard the name before.

He stereotyped gay people as florists. That particular stereotype went out with leisure suits and Mr. Roper. How gay friendly can you be if you’re trotting out cliche’s as outdated as that? This suggests that he doesn’t really know very many gay people. No matter what he says, he made the joke, so he IS that guy.

I honestly had no idea Carson Daly still had a career in show business until I saw this story. I thought he and Downtown Julie Brown were running a dog kennel in the East Village or something. Wow. Guess you gotta go and get all homophobic to be resurrected from the dead these days.

What?! Gay men getting an apology for the insensitive comments of a straight man? (gasp.)

JayKay, wait! Don’t comment just yet. Your beard still needs a back rub after she pretended to be a mechanical bull you can ride on for some anal stimulation.

Let me do the commenting for you because I love you.

JayKay: “Carson Daly should NOT apologize to them whiny liberal fags! He just said that in the heat of the moment. If it was me in his position, it would’ve been very hard to talk with that phallic thing in front of me. If it was me in his place, my sex-starved lifestyle would’ve tempted me to swallow it whole. What do you liberals call that again, a microphone? Is that right, a microphone?”

There, I wish my post was longer. I know it’s disappointing but you have to understand, loving you is hard work. Queerty keeps posting these stories about liberals, Europeans, equality and apologies–you know… topics that grinds your gears. But don’t worry. I don’t love you any less. I love you, JayKay! My world wouldn’t be complete without you.

      Screw GLAAD.
      THey don’t speak for me.
      He should be fired.
Not meeting with people who have big egos who think they speak for the gay community.

So apparently after you project your ignorance and tired str8t boy stereotypes, all you have to do is meet with GLADD and you get a get out of jail free card from the LGBT community.

How about GLADD hold these people accountable for being adults. Children apologize for saying things they don’t mean. Adults say things they mean, otherwise they would not have
said it. What he said was not taken out of context, nor was he under duress when he said it.

Mean it, say it, own it.

    • Ok, ok

Write a big enough check and GLAAD will “forgive” anything. I’d like to know who appointed them voice of all gay people on the planet, because they don’t seem to speak for many who frequently disagree with them.

GLAAD is a joke, always pandering to celebrities, and really doesn’t do anything for the rest of us. One big PR campaign tool lining pockets and helping no one.

Why does sucking up to GLAAD automatically mean forgiveness from the Community?
Yes he apologized, it seemed sincere, and that is appreciated.
I wouldn’t say he is a foe, but he is definitely not a friend if those are his attitudes.

Whatever, he’s a douche, but this comment doesn’t offend me one bit, it made me laugh. The biggest reason we can’t be taken seriously is because we always get our feelings hurt. Grow a pair, if you can take a Dick you can take a joke…

@curt: Are you kidding me? Gays are the butt (teehee) of all kinds of jokes. We have a huge sense of humor because we are used to it.
      This wasn’t a joke.
      It was degradation.
You would know about that because you’re a simple idiot with an ugly face and nothing intelligent to say.
That last remark was just a joke btw. Don’t take it too seriously.

Not once did he say he is sorry for what he said. Instead, he position his statement by saying “I am sorry some were offended by my comments”. What a hateful little thing!

This guy is around gays being that he is in the entertainment industry. Has he no shame? These so-called “jokes” have no place in a civilized society.

Why do these HATEFUL comments keep being said? Enough already!

@Chris: Chris, or Carson PR handler, you chill. Had he made similar comments about African Americans he’d be fired right now. He needs to be fired to set an example.

Regardless of what he said before, this was not a true apology. He didn’t apologize for being offensive, he just said he was sad that anyone was offended. There is a big difference and I far as I can tell the whole apology thing was just BS. The fake apology makes me think he is a douche bag.

      @Ok, ok:
Now, I’m not big on GLAAD either cause frankly, I don’t even know the first damn thing about them. I do know however that they are quick to grab a bitch by the balls if they so much as utter the first syllable of a gay slur, so maybe you don’t like them or understand them (as I don’t, lol) but they actually do good things for us.

@curt: that wasn’t a joke. This is the same type of asshole comment akin to “gay people want to be in the military because they wanna see some REAL men naked in the shower.” Or “we don’t need a gay studies course in college, you can learn what shoes go with what hat at Macy’s?

Or “if someone calls you a faggot, you just hit em with your purse, dearie.”

He claims to Support our Equality… great. But he clearly doesn’t consider us to be equals.

Just out of curiosity, had he said “with my luck it would have been a bunch of black men who were too busy cookin’ fried chicken to get off their lazy butts and stop the terrorists,” do you think that saying “sorry… I was trying to make fun of myself” would be sufficient?

      Because I don’t.

@takakupo: You know enough about them, as that’s pretty much why they exist.
