Nobody likes to lose, but if you do, it’s best to have Andrew Garfield at your side so you can lean ’round to give him a kiss.
That was Ryan Reynolds’ strategy upon hearing the announcement that Ryan Gosling won the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Award at the Golden Globes: the Deadpool actor landed a smooch on the former Spiderman lead, lending a bit more homoeroticism to the Marvel universe.

You can’t win ’em all, but you can at least do everything in your power to upstage the victor.

I appreciate that Ryan Reynolds is basically sex on two legs walking, but the last thing I need is two straight men kissing one another to get attention. Same-sex affection shouldn’t be used as a publicity stunt, I thought we learned that when Katy Perry debuted her song about kissing a girl.
MsHenry
You are right there is a difference when Gay Men kiss, you can feel the true passion verses two men imitating real life.
Gates
@Kieru: I don’t think Ryan Reynolds is desperate for publicity. Would you say it was for publicity if Matt Bomer kissed Lady Gaga? I mean he is gay and shouldn’t be kissing a woman, right? Let’s not be so touchy about every little thing
Kieran
I’d like to see that happening on stage rather than in the audience. The last thing we need is two more hetroes kissing one another to get attention.
Kangol
Why not let them kiss each other? Good for them? Also, Trevante Rhodes kissed Barry Jenkins ON STAGE after *Moonlight* won. Both are straight. It was a beautiful moment.

I kiss my straight male friends all the time. Affection between males – straight or gay, publicity stunt or not – should be lauded, not condemned.
Lucasloja
Andrew Garfield is not straight, he mentioned in a 2015 interview that he had no sexual preference. So, is at least a little bit “real”.
Kieru
@Lucasloja: Are you sure you aren’t conflating a 2015 interview he had about a pansexual Spider-man with comments regarding his own sexual orientation? In interviews regarding a role in which he played an LGBTQ+ character he referred to it as “… exploring things that are not naturally in me”.
He’s been quite outspoken though about an LGBTQ+ Spider-man.
Brian
@Kieru: Completely agree! The stunt or “joke” of two men kissing is tired and never funny. Over the last ~8 years, Saturday Night Live has increased the number of skits where that’s the whole punchline. I don’t understand it there either.
njzdmyz
Actually this is hilarious. If anyone follows the Marvel Universe they would know that Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) has continueally been pansexual and joked about hooking up with Spider-Man (previously Andrew Garfield). Ryan has also been pushing the idea that Deadpool gets a boyfriend in Deadpool 2. So them kissing is more then just two straight guys kissing, it’s actually a great marketing ploy to include the LGBT into the Marvel Comic Universe.

it was a laugh get over it.
stadacona
People have only two reactions to two men kissing…disgust and laughter. They are not laughing with us..they are laughing at us.
Captain Obvious
Clearly not many Ryan Reynolds fans here. He literally does this all the time… even when animated lol.
Slash
I thought it was funny and irreverent. He’s clearly having fun with Deadpool being pansexual and the Spider-Man link. I don’t get why people are so quick to make everything into some big statement that’s either amazing or awful. People really need to just relax.
Jack Meoff
People need to lighten up. Non-gay expressions of closeness between men should be encouraged not called in to question about their intention or authenticity. Should be more of it.
silveroracle
Two guys just comfortable with their sexuality.
Sluggo2007
@Kieru: Don’t you think it’s time that you went to the hospital and had that telephone pole that’s stuck up your ass removed?
Sluggo2007
@Kieru: I forgot to add – take Brian with you when you go.

I will look forward to the day when two guys kissing isn’t considered newsworthy.
