It’s impossible to fully convey how awesome we think Ben Cohen is — and not just for that delectable fuzzy face and chest. The British-born former rugby player-turned activist retired from sports and founded The Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation in 2011 to combat homophobia and bullying and has been one of our favorite and most loyal allies ever since. Today the big guy turns 37 so join us in wishing him the happiest birthday yet.

OK I’ll say it – I feel a bit uncomfortable with all these hot straight guys milking the gay pound for their own interests. Yes he has the charity, but would he have done anything if guys didn’t fancy him?

@charlie_jackpot: You could make that arguement about the vast majority of straight celebs supporting LGBTI issues. Most of them have become aware of our challenges/struggles/issues because we are fans of that celebrity and that opens the door for them to find out more and get engaged with us.
That said, i really believe that you are wrong with Ben. He, like many celebs (Patrick Stewart, Benedict Cumberbatch, to name but 2) deep in their hearts beive in the ideal of equality irrespective of race, religion and sexuality. I think we need to stop being so cynical and assuming that if a straight person supports LGBTI issues that they looking to make a quick buck out of us… Most people are decent and care about their fellow humans.

Meh, he’s just a guy who wants to milk gay men/the LGBT community for money. Here in the UK we see him as a scam artist and he has even bullied and abused his wife and mother in law. His charity only gives 10% of the money they scam from people away.

He has always had a gay following, but lately his ego is changing him. I miss my friend when he was my mate Benji. I don’t know where that friend went.
If you want to support a great cause the Warwick Rowers raise funds for Outsports, and they genuinely have very small administrative fees and a far higher percentage goes to the charity.
As for Ben, if you see my friend tell Ben Cohen that I miss the real Benji, not this one.
