Strict obscenity laws in India forbid female nudity and male/female sexual content in films–so Brokeback Mountain‘s Indian release left the Heath Ledger/Michelle Williams sex scenes on the editing room floor. But no such laws exist about male nudity or male on-screen sexuality, however–so all the gay sex scenes are still in.
We love this little legal loophole in India’s laws, since real-life homosexuality is illegal in the country and can carry a 10-year prison sentence. The moral: You can’t watch what you can do, but you can’t do what you can watch. We still think India is fabulous and we want to take a trip there someday.
