“People who live in the middle of the country and finally came out. Or they’ve been together with their partner for decades, and they’re finally out to their families. Or, you know, they walk a little bit lighter because they saw Pete and I out there doing our thing. I remember we met a couple who drove eight hours or something — they didn’t go to the Pete event in their town because they didn’t want anyone to see them there. Because they didn’t want anyone to assume that they were out. Because they weren’t out yet. But we built a campaign where they felt seen. And they felt like they belonged.”Chasten Buttigieg, husband of former Democratic Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, on the enduring effect of Pete’s campaign.

We’ve come so far in the LGBTQ community to have had a candidate who was able to make it as far as Pete. Thank you Pete and Chasten!

The impact of Pete just being who he is and being so open and natural about his marriage is impossible to measure but it is surely wide-reaching and profound. The country saw an intelligent, married, upstanding vet and mayor and happens to be gay. Yes, there were the requisite idiots who focused on his sexual orientation but the vast majority of Americans focused on his qualifications for the highest office in the land. Thank you, Pete and Chasten.

Pete and Chasten would have been a real class act. Along the lines of John and Abigail Adams, FDR and Elinore, Harry and Bess, JFK and Jackie, Barack and Michelle. Of course anyone would be better than Trump and his whore. But don’t give up hope yet. In 12 years (4 for Joe and 8 for Kamala) after the nation has matured even more, there would still be time for Pete and Chasten.

Wow, 12 years. Do we dare to dream?

Was great to see them out there, treated seriously by media, and the fact that so many of these fake patriotic Republicans, who never served were scrambling to try to attack him but couldn’t. He volunteered to go into the military. It was fantastic to try to see them want to attack him but not be able to because they didn’t want to be seen as attacking the military.
LOL!!

I’m sorry, but what? Negating the gay thing, which really should be neither here nor there, this guy was a mayor running for President. I thought it massively presumptuous, personally, and it didn’t get any better as it went on.
Unprecedented, you should pardon the pun, and obviously going nowhere. As it didn’t.
As far as the rest of it, I’m going to award more credit to the sixteen-year-olds who, en masse, already changed public opinion simply by being open-minded as they grow up and forcing their own parents to see some sense in the matter.
Thanks, Chasten, for jumping on the bandwagon at the ninth mile and declaring you won the ten-mile race. Polish the rhetoric to be a bit less obvious and you’ll be very good at being a politician’s husband.
