Earlier this week we reported that Indonesia banned “effeminate” men and drag queens from television, and not to be outdone, China has now banned all gay people from appearing on TV.
The new and regressive “moral” guidelines for broadcasting come shortly after the country pulled the plug on Addicted, a web series based off the popular “boys’ love” novel, Are You Addicted?, which features male teens kissing. Think of the children!

The new policy bans “abnormal sexual relationships and sexual behavior” as well as “witchcraft practices and feudal superstition,” and “grotesque criminal cases.” Way to cover your bases, Chinese censors.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
It only took three weeks for Addicted to get yanked off the air, but the show has since been uploaded to Youtube.
You can see how subversive it really is by checking out the first episode below (spoiler: not subversive at all):

WHAT? Where will the Chinese get their fix of buzzed upper-class women with too much time on their hands fighting now?! Isn’t this kind of deprivation and torture The Hague’s bread and butter?

Stuff like this may be a shock to those living 24/7 in their protected gay bubbles, but many of us outside of those spaces still see the reality that we have a long way to go and are still viewed as “abnormal” in this hetero dominated world. Even right here in the US. Marriage equality was only a couple baby steps towards societal acceptance. The fight is far from over.

THANK YOU CHINA. I stand with your decision to ban Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio from your television air waves. I have always said the Chinese see things differently than we do and this decision proves it. You go, China.

In a world where countries and parents acknowledge violence. “Yes, I know there are beheadings and gore in this film, but is there sex of any sort?”
The question really was asked by a co-worker who would have let his kids see the movie as there was only blood and guts.
Not getting it.

Dear God, what the hell is happening in Southeast Asia!!??
I thought the Communist regime is supposed to be secular, scientific, and non-superstitious, and yet they call our sexuality “abnormal”?

The inevitable war between China, North Korea, and South Korea will remove 3 of the worst human rights-violating governments from the planet. None of these places is sustainable.

This has a lot more to do with the socially conservative nature of Chinese society than a purely anti-gay motive. They are afraid of all things that are different or differ from the norm of their society. That’s what all the things they banned have in common. The Cultural Revolution was very destructive to Chinese society and was a period in which the norms of society were turned on their head. Children terrorized their parents by turning them into the state and had them executed, whole cities were blockaded and starved because they weren’t considered supportive enough of Communism. After Mao died and gang removed from power, the establishment cracked down on these extremes to restore society to some semblance of normalcy. Anything that looks like it might stir up society is smacked back down. As I was told years ago, it wasn’t even until the 1990s that it was deemed socially acceptable that a man and woman could walk together, even if in a relationship, or hug/kiss each other in public. Even into the 2000s, kissing in public was still somewhat taboo.
