Chinese Authorities Apprehend AIDS Activist Battling Tainted Blood Supplies

Tian Xi, the Chinese AIDS activist who says he contracted HIV as a third-grader during a blood transfusion, was arrested with his fellow activists in what appears to be a crackdown on his public campaigning to demand the government compensate citizens who were infected with tainted blood. AP: “Unregulated schemes to buy blood and sell it to hospitals ended up contaminating blood supplies in central Henan province in the mid-1990s.”
