“I’m reluctant to comment on another person’s faith, but I would say it is hard to look at this president’s actions and believe that they’re the actions of somebody who believes in God.
I just don’t understand how you can be as worshipful of your own self as he is and be prepared to humble yourself before God. I’ve never seen him humble himself before anyone.
The exaltation of yourself, especially a self that’s about wealth and power, could not be more at odds with at least my understanding of the teachings of the Christian faith.”Devout Episcopalian and 2020 hopeful Pete Buttigieg speaking with USA Today about Donald Trump‘s alleged belief in god.

The more President Pete talks, the more I love the guy!

Where most politicians speak double talk and have a way of giving you a bunch of words that sound like an answer but are .. basically a bunch of flowery verbs and nouns that sound good..a long winded non answer…Pete speaks clearly and in every day language simple and direct…he is thoughtful , there is no question.he wont answer…i wish more politicians were like Pete…

I’m not sure why Christians would be ticked-off over Peter Buttigieg’s comments about Trump. I mean, it is a true statement that Trump glorifies himself more than anyone else I know, except his daughter, Ivanka. It does make one wonder how a man, who tweets lies constantly, praises himself like a glutton overeats, and name calls everyone, who questions any aspect of his sporadic decisions to be someone God lifts up as being ordained or blessed by him. I think that many, NOT ALL, the religious right or Christians, only admire and stand up for this Fake President, is because he is allowing them to get deeply involved in politics without ramifications such as paying taxes.
Some of the fundamentalist Christians are the worst because they embrace the very concepts, which the Bible sees as negative behaviors, by judging and condemning others they perceive as non-believers. I know some really good true Christians, who love everyone regardless of where they come from, what religion they worship, or the person they love; to me, these are the people, who have learned what unconditional love is all about. I would suggest people read, I Corinthians Chapter 13. I think it says everything it needs to say about “love” — the love Jesus had for all humans.
The only reason someone would find issue with Peter Buttigieg is they are being stung by a scorpion with the truth.

they don’t need a reason to get pissed about what he says, they already hate him for who he is.
Morrisson
Any gay man who believes in or defends the Abrahamic religions is in my opinion not of sound mind and not deserving to hold public office. It is like Christopher Hitchens said organised religion is the main source of hatred in the world. I would find it pretty difficult to vote for Pete based solely on this. I think most people believe in god because they cannot accept the fact that we are not special; we are just a combination of elements and the result of a series of accidental events. The belief in God is a failing of a narcissistic personality.
tonylovesotis
I couldn’t agree more with you Morrisson. Is it too much to ask for an erudite, gay president who isn’t a scripture-lovin’, faith-declarin’, religious wing-nut? Despite his stellar qualifications and obvious ability, Buttigieg needs to put down the Bible and go read a science book. Jeebus.

Your lack of insight into the important role organized religion has played in the formation of practically every society we have ever seen and its role in the perpetuation of these societies is shockingly naive. The cultural, political, economic, and moralistic bonds the hold each and every society together almost all have their roots, in one way or the other, in common beliefs centered on religious ideals. Whether the religion in question is based on a single deity, multiple deities, or some sort of naturalistic faith there are almost no examples of successful societies that have existed without the presence of religion. To think we can survive without some sort of religion, at this stage of our existence, is a patently silly view. And while I am personally an agnostic I understand the important role they play and accept that we can’t survive without them. And Hitchens was a one-dimensional hack that believed the overuse of a thesaurus to find bigger and grander words added credence to his sophomoric views. He’s was, as with many things, wrong.

I was raised as a Christian. When I was old enough to be on my own, I got the hell out. The bible is explicit in its teachings condemning homosexuality, adultery, etc. If you really want to be a “Christian” you cannot pick and choose which verses don’t apply. I don’t see how any gay person can actually think going to church is a good idea. If you want camaraderie and a social group to hang with, volunteer with a non-profit. If there is a god he sure ain’t loving the gays.
D_Bro
I think that you are following the King James version of the Bible. But, most biblical scholars will tell you that this version was “translated” based on James’ personal beliefs and not an accurate translation. The most “condemning” verse, “Thou shalt not lie …” is not in the original version and homosexuality is not a major issue.
I do not consider myself Christian (I don’t believe in any organized religion) even though I was raised as a Catholic. But, You can’t condemn a man for his personal beliefs.
UlfRaynor
D_Bro, it might interest you to know, that King James was himself a homosexual.
Pick up any Bible prior to 1946 and you won’t find the word homosexual in the new testament KJV. (it never appears in the old testament)
It’s sort of like Christians who condemn sodomy, even though the word sodomy doesn’t appear anywhere in the Bible, old or new testament.

D_bro: Read 1 Corinthians 6:9 in any modern translations “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. ” Seems pretty clear the apostle Paul was condemning homosexuality. Not much room for interpretation there. That’s why I would never go to a “christian” church.

Most mainstream Christians understand that Trump is not a person of faith at all. ” “Evangementalists” mostly understand that as well (a few of the dullest think he is on a “faith journey”, especially when brainlessly following cynical clerics). They seem to believe that “like King David” he is a flawed man chosen by God to lead America to Jesus. It is really quite laughable.
Donald Dork
Trump believes in the gospel. The gospel of Supply side Jesus that is.

..to all the Christians who think homosexuality is NOT normal. Guess what it IS. Take a look at our history, and learn…why because homosexuality isn’t something that’s just appeared it’s been around since; well can anyone actually prove or say it took place before heterosexuality?? NO. Anyway the point regarding this issue is the blind fools who simply carry on ignoring the facts of life and remain in denial, due to the out of touch with reality, brain washing bible…In fact I believe Christians do just that they’d rather bury their heads in the sand than face facts.
Daggerman
…what’s infuriating about this is Mike Pence isn’t the only stupid sniveling homophobe, there are millions out there…so many who enjoy remaining spineless or being stuck in the mud as one can put it simply because of fear of change…what am I talking about, the bible!! Well you don’t get more out-dated than that.
