CO. Gets First Gay Legislator

Colorado’s going through the gay change. Once the epicenter of evangelical activists, the “Centennial State” just got its first queer legislator: Mark Ferrandino. 365 Gay reports:

The former head of Colorado Stonewall Democrats has become the first gay man to sit in the state legislature. Mark Ferrandino was appointed this week to replace Rep. Mike Cerbo (D).

Cerbo resigned his seat to become director of the Colorado AFL-CIO.

Ferrandino, who until his appointment to the legislature this week was treasurer of the state Democratic Party, had the endorsement of Cerbo.

He was chosen Thursday night by a Democratic Party committee.

“I’m proud to be representing my constituents and the GLBT community,” Ferrandino said. “I’m a qualified Democrat who wants to do good, who also happens to be gay.”

Mazel, Mark!
