[Colin] protected me. Now he is eight years younger than me, but he acted the part of the big brother. Because I’m not aggressive at all, or violent at all – I hate fighting. But he would do that for me. Colin would protect me. If someone called me names on our road he would go out and kick the shit out of them.
“I remember one young fella out on the road shouting, ‘You Faggot Farrell.’ Colin went out and kicked the shite out of him. Honestly! The little size of him! He was a little terrier, but I…wasn’t.
— Elder brother Eamon Farrell recalling his younger brother Colin protecting him from bullies to the Irish Independent.

It makes me love Colin Farrell all the more! What a great guy.

@Low Country Boy: I have a new found appreciation toward this sexy man
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
Kinda pathetic on big bro’s part tho. Okay he hates agro but he seems happy enough for his brother to step up in his place and risk his own safety. Further, I can’t conceivably imagine what physical advantage a younger brother by some EIGHT YEARS has over the much more physically mature older brother, other a lack of cowardice that is. That said of course the real villains here are the gobshite homophobes.

Colin Farrell doesn’t hesitate when he knows something is right OR when he’s drunk. I’m going to watch his sex tape again with new appreciation for his lovely hard-on.
Charli Girl
I always knew Colins brother was gay and he protected him, but did not know his brother was just a pretty as him!!

@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: Well…I see that. When I was a kid I was so driven inside myself by homophobia I was practically catatonic at times, walking around in foggy blur, until I finally summoned enough initiative to take an overdose of Seconals. Fighting back or standing up for myself wasn’t even conceivable. If my kid brother had fought my battles for me that would have been humiliating (wonderful as the intent would be), but in the end, yes; none of this would be an issue without the “real villains”.
Captain Obvious
Oh hell no. My little sister is only 2 years younger than me and when she tried that stuff I got pissed because I had to protect her on top of myself.
To each their own but there’s no way I would let my younger sibling “protect me”.
Honestly I hate how they keep spouting this stuff about the “gay brother” as if he’s some pathetic loser who isn’t manly in any way and can’t live his life without the straight hero to save him.
This seems to happen any time a celeb has a gay brother.

@Charli Girl: Um… you’d better not click on the link to the source article then, lest your fantasy be unexpectedly shattered.
Kieran
@ Captain Obvious: Amen to that.
What’s next, an article about how straight Colin used to bathe, tuck in and read his older gay brother a story before bed time?
xzall
I read the story at the link and it showed a whole lot more context to his remarks. It seems Colin’s brother was horribly bullied at his old school for years and since this was before Colin was born, I doubt he was doing much protecting then. I don’t think the brother comes across as a loser. In fact, he seems very strong and strong minded. The whole article is about him speaking out for marriage equality in Ireland and talking about his husband.
Disciple
I have a younger brother who is in the minor league MMA he also attempts to become violent when people get stupid around me, I stop him :p
Violence is not going to solve the issues we face in homophobia.
