“Hollywood is so f**ked up. So much of the focus is on your personal life & has nothing to do with the talent you have to bring to the table.
Thank god for Ryan Murphy, Greg Berlanti, & Jeff Davis. They believe gay actors are more than just their personal lives.
So disappointed in how Hollywood can’t understand that playing a character has nothing to do with how u live your personal life.” – Colton Haynes, taking to Twitter to fire off a series of not-so cryptic rants about the plight of being an openly gay actor in Hollywood

Oh, lord, here we go… it’s just like with Zachary Quinto. The minute they come, they feel the need to be preachy little shits who spent the majority of their career not acknowledging their sexuality, and then suddenly want to be SMEs on everything.
DarkZephyr
You don’t believe that he has any legitimate concerns?
Xzamilloh
The only “legitimate concern” he has is for his own career, not gay and lesbian actors, otherwise he’d be the change he is looking for instead of virtue signaling on Twitter for the circle jerk of likes and retweets… because what’s his little Twitfit gonna do in the long run? Or the short run? So, from where I’m sitting, nothing he’s saying on Twitter is anything but “Look at me. I want to be in a story.”
Xzamilloh
And more importantly, his looks are 87% of the appeal. Name one thing he’s done where you were like, “Damn, that was thought provoking and riveting.”

this!

To be honest, I haven’t ever seen him in anything at all. I don’t know what his acting skills are. Eventually I plan on starting Teen Wolf, I suppose. But I do know that every so often when I’m frustrated I like to vent on social media. And I do like getting likes and replies as it’s part of the therapy. I think a lot of human beings enjoy sympathy when they feel down. And there’s always a part of me that enjoys seeing that something I posted got several likes or the occasional retweet. I would imagine celebrities aren’t any different from regular people in that respect. All of that being said, is there any reason to believe that he’s way off base? Does Hollywood cast gay male actors every bit as often as they castrate ones as long as they can act well? From where I’m sitting I guess it’s not necessarily an easy thing to gauge. I feel like there are a lot of gay actors who can act that I would like to see more often. But maybe it’s just the luck of the draw I don’t know.
DarkZephyr
“Does Hollywood cast gay male actors every bit as often as they castrate ones as long as they can act well?”
God how I wish there was an edit feature. That was supposed to be “cast straight ones” and not “castrate ones”.
geb1966
He’s relatively young and he hasn’t had a very long career yet. So to complain that he has spent the majority of his career not acknowledging his sexuality is ridiculous. He has come out relatively early in his career.
Southstguy
Hollywood has a long way to go but this bish has walked away from how many gigs? More auditions, less travel, sweetie
geb1966
You have no idea why he walked away from the roles so your accusation is ludicrous. Actors, both straight and gay, refuse roles on a regular basis.
ChrisK
Some of the most successful actors can’t act for shit but they bring out a fan base. Hollywood only cares about filling seats.
Mack
You’re only as good as your last project. It’s based on how many tickets you sold, not how good you are.
Donston
Okay, cool dude. But where is this supposed talent at? He got into the industry because he was pretty and closeted (and maybe for some couching reasons) not because of talent. The only reason he’s still sorta getting work is because he’s pretty and now not-closeted. And when he first came out didn’t he get on another actor for saying something similar to this? And it’s not like he was ever near A-list or in demand.
(I don’t like being bitchy to Colton, but he makes it too damn easy).
Why can’t we have a male Ellen Page? Someone who comes out in the midst of a solid career, exudes plenty of pride, self-respect and class and who just doesn’t give a fvck about Hollywood?
PinkoOfTheGange
Because most execs are str8 and think they can get in the middle of two women. It has been this way for years.
Donston
You kinda missed my point with the comparison. I was speaking on having an established younger than 50 actor coming out who is at least somewhat talented and who isn’t all about showing off their body and using their body and sexual identity to get attention and headlines but who will still be brazen about who he is as well as brazen about gay rights and well-being.
Page’s career has suffered since coming out and being so outspoken. But she doesn’t seem to care.
Jaxton
Unfortunately, Hollywood is not the homosexuality-embracing institution some claim it to be. It is based on formula – the formula that flatters women with its on screen depictions. Male homosexual desire destroys that formula.
Sure, there are lots of homosexuals working in Hollywood. However, they are all working for the formula.
Alexis
Interesting point. Though I would say that if he really believes that it is about talent, then he should reduce advertising his personal life on instagram and twitter in a slutty way. All of this overshadows his so-called ‘talent.’ Talented actors don’t have to strut their stuff like easy meat on social media. They let the work speak for itself.
Donston
Advertising all aspects of his personal life (but still in a vanilla way) and constantly showing off his body- did anyone expect anything different from him when he eventually came out?
g-sing
totally agree with this. it’s great that he is happy and in a great relationship, but dude needs to be a bit more business savvy with his posts.
DarkZephyr
One of the negative impacts of greater social acceptance that I’m starting to notice is an increasing amount of slut shaming among gay men. I truly miss the days when we could be expressive of our sexuality without other gay men clucking their tongues at like a bunch of old bitchy judgmental self superior hens. *sigh*
geb1966
I agree Dark Zephyr!! This comment is quite hypocritical, considering a number of heterosexual female actors do the same thing on their social media but because Colton is gay he must be held to a different standard.
tham
Man, I’ve been hearing this over and over again, from the same age in hollywood.
SO, let me get this straight. The first thing Colton and his generation (I don’t need to write it, you all know which generation I’m taking about) do in the morning is take a selfie in bed and post it to the world. The second thing they do is take a selfie while brushing their teeth and then post in online. Then they spend the rest of the day, tweeting every thought in the head and of course taking selfies and of course posting them online for the world to see….
And then they complain about how everyone in Hollywood only cares about your private life? If 90% of your day is about you posting things about yourself…then that’s how Hollywood will see you.
It’s not Hollywood you should be disappointed with, it’s yourself.
g-sing
yes!!! ^^^^^^
Chris
TV and Movies — much like modeling — is based on selling looks and sex appeal. What does Mr. Haynes think is the reason he jumped from one to the other career?
Story lines and talent come in second in their money-making calculus. Only a very few movies, TV shows, and people (here’s toasting Pixar and Meryl Streep) do so successfully.
surreal33
What is f*cked up? An aging, D-list, twink pandering to the gay community to stay relevant. Mr Haynes lacks talent, therefore, all you have is looks and sexual innuendo.
PinkoOfTheGange
Thanks for the update. there are now some producers and show runners that know it is acting and not sexuality that count.
Now please go take a lesson from MM, but stay away from Kennedys. You can’t charm the unhappy rabbits forever.
Keebler ILF
To those who say he has no talent, I thought Colton’s acting was amazing on Teen Wolf. Not great on Arrow. I don’t know how big his part will be on AMH, but I hope he does a good job.
Kangol
Miss Thing ain’t lying. Hollywood churns out garbage these days. Compare most of the dreck released today with the films from the 1970s, or the 1950s, or the 1930s, and it’s hard to believe Hollywood studios even realize what filmmaking is now. All they do is follow formulas, and hope for millions. Yet they still can’t figure out why film attendance is down and keeps dropping. Throw some more sequels, stupid straight romances, retread war movies, etc. at the wall and hope one or two stick, even if they stink!
JPDonahue
O, Comments! You never fail to entertain!

Oh, Twitter world! Hollywood is what it is.
At least we can do our part to support LGBT projects and film festivals. Eastsiders S3 for example. Gonna be good!
DCguy
Ok Colton, fine, then Report the studios or casting directors or agents that are the bigots and homophobes.
Otherwise, he is JUST like the people that come forward and say that there are a lot of sexual abusers and child molesters in Hollywood but REFUSE to report them or name names.
If there are some nasty homophobes refusing to hire people, report them to the Ca. Attorney Generals office. They will not publicize it and they will investigate. So do that or stop bitching.
geb1966
Reporting it to the Attorney General would accomplish what? What crime is being committed?
Ummmm Yeah
Or maybe it’s just because you are’t that good of an actor. You get buy on your looks. So yeah, in a town full of good looking people begging to be on camera, you aren’t anything special.
DCguy
What a shock, one of Mo Bros screenames, who always supports Republicans wants to pretend there isn’t any bigotry against lgbts. No surprise there.
Ummmm Yeah
What a shock your paranoia is raging today.
Bradsman
Actors who rely on sex appeal should not come out. It alienates half the audience. In other words, Spock can come out, Kirk can’t. It harms believability in love scenes.
geb1966
You fail to comprehend the concept of ACTING, dear
sesfm
Can people like Colton Haynes please stop pretending they have any idea what problems are? Being a celebrity brings with it an interest in your personal life. If you don’t like that, don’t become an actor.
And please stop pretending like “talent” isn’t the same thing as “looks” when you are this type of actor.
Jaxton
If Colton had played heterosexual roles where he sweeps women off their feet, he would have become a big star. BIG STAR.
You see, women enjoy being courted. It reinforces their naturally narcissistic egos. Women enjoy playing hard to get because it proves that she’s the one who pulls the strings in her relationships with men.
If a man expresses homosexual desire, it’s like Hurricane Harvey on her parade. It destroys her act and takes away the rewards she receives from men in exchange for that act.
This is why Hollywood agents to the big male stars ALWAYS advise against any homosexual confession. It’s as much a rule of today’s liberal Hollywood as it was of old conservative Hollywood.
It will never change.

Hollywood may be ****ed up but…
If you don’t own your own studio, you play by someone else’s rules and the number 1 rule is make money for the studio 2. Make more money for the studio 3. Pack your bags if you can’t do number 1 & 2.
If no talent but pretty is making money, let’s do this again tomorrow. If not see rule 3.
