By Friday, Defense Sec. Robert Gates is expected to announce a “way ahead” on how to minimize some of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell‘s worst effects, such as third-party outings. Which is an amusing tact, because third-party outings should have never lead to DADT dismissals in the first place. So, yea progress?

Of course this is progress since it’s a step in the right direction. This blurb, IMHO, makes Queerty seem like a tired, old queen who, if the glass is mostly full, will empty half-way so she can bitch about the glass being half empty. Get off the rag. Third-party outings are a serious problem and once removed DADT will be the policy it was meant to be and, hopefully, will not be a policy for much longer.

@Michael: Agreed. Get over it. In 3 years, this topic will be history. Progress happens over time. Keep the pressure up, but deal with reality.

OF COURSE, third-party outings are bad, but
1. There is no evidence they are forbidding ALL third-party outings, and EVEN IF THEY DO:
2. A gay servicemember telling ANYONE other than his/her attorney or a security clearance investigator at ANYTIME in ANYPLACE …including his or her Mama…will still be grounds for getting discharged because
3. What “the policy [was] meant to be” and WILL REMAIN is: “you can be gay and serve in the military if ONLY you know it.” In other words: only gay virgin mutes need apply.
I have read some pretty shameless/strange/self-deluding/self-loathing crapola used to defend Obama Wan Kenobi in the last few years but resorting to defend DADT in order to defend him tops them all!
