Watch: Conchita Wurst Makes BBC's Prestigious '100 Women' List

The BBC has announced its 100 Woman of 2014, and we’re excited to share that this year’s Eurovision Song Contest winner, Austria’s Conchita Wurst, has made the list.

Last year, the BBC kick-started the 100 Women list as “its pledge to represent women better in its international news output.”

With the addition of Conchita to this year’s 100 Women, it marks the first time that a drag queen has been part of the list. “I give everything I have to come as close as possible,” Conchita remarked about being a woman. “I’m not tired of being Conchita, but I think it’s the same with every one of us. We are happy to, you know, like every one of us does, pull off the wig and eyelashes… make yourself comfortable.”

Conchita joins the list alongside 99 other women, including Dr. Yasmin Altwaijri (Saudi mental health and obesity scientist), Laura Bates (Founder, Everyday Sexism project), Pinky Lilani (Founder, Asian Women of Achievement Awards), Ruby Chakravarti (Women’s rights campaigner, India) and more.
