Conchita Wurst, the Austrian bearded drag queen who was recently crowned the winner of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, performed on Sunday to a crowd of more than 10,000 at Trafalgar Square for the 2014 London Pride festival.
Braving the rainy weather, Conchita’s adoring fans erupted in cheers and applause when Sir Ian McKellen (X-Men, Lord of the Rings) introduced her by saying, “Show business has always led the way when it comes to the freedom to be yourself. So Conchita is following in the footsteps of our predecessors. There is a long tradition of outrageousness and confidence that performers embody, and that has an enormous impact. It clears the way for others to dare to be themselves. She has done just that.”
Then, when she took to the stage, Conchita shared the inspirational thought, “Let us be proud about who we are and let us give a statement for love, respect and tolerance.” Watch video of her amazing performances below.
According to the Daily Mail, the festival drew more than 300,000 attendees.
