People fall in love in the most mysterious ways. Just ask Jillian Druzgala.

The 23-year-old is a student at the University of Iowa. She’d been crushing on Derek Donnellan, the “cute guy in the dining hall,” for a while before working up the courage to give him her number… only to have him send a text informing her he’s gay.

Whomp, whomp.

Jillian’s disappointment was short-lived, however, because Derek then informed her he had an identical twin brother who was straight and single and that he would be happy to introduce the two of them.

“Unfortunately I am gay BUT I am an identical twin and he’s straight if you’d like his number or Snapchat,” he wrote.

To which Jillian replied, “That works out. Yes please.”

Jillian tweeted a screenshot of the exchange and it quickly went viral, receiving over 400K likes and nearly 55K retweets.

“So yesterday i gave my number to a cute guy in the dining hall…LMFAOO,” she wrote.

She followed that up with an update informing the world that she had met up with Derek’s twin, Scott, and the two of them hit it off: “Went to lunch with the brother. his name is scott. will be hanging out again after thanksgiving break.”

She followed that up with a second update saying she and Derek are now friends, too: “@derekjdonnellan are now friends 🥰 we will also be hanging out after thanksgiving break too.”
