Republican Presidential candidate John McCain’s campaign accepted $2300 in donations from Jonathan Crutchley, one of the founders of gay hook-up site ManHunt. [Towleroad]

What a scandal. Will it matter, or are gays just thinking with their dicks? Was just reading Out article by Joseph Goss about the incredible numbers and potential influence of Manhunt.
Jeremy
So…much…irony…*headsplosion*
emb
This makes perfect sense: In a mccain administration, discrimination against gays will be encouraged and possibly (re)enshrined in law. Ultimately that means that a robust, public gay life will become increasingly rare, and men will gravitate away from socializing in public places and toward the safety and more relative anonymity of sites like Manhunt. So Manhunt prospers from an anti-gay administration, so of course its founder would support mccain.

EMB
Your point makes sense. I feel like I am living in a world of The Dark Knight along with the Joker.
CitizenGeek
Unfortunately, EMB’s point does make sense. If Obama is elected, then less and less gay people will hate themselves and less and less of them will resort to cheap one night stands via ManHunt.
spunkbox
so very stank. All self respecting ‘mos should IMMEDIATLEY cancel their mancunt accounts.
Amber LeMay
Hey C’zengeek – those one night stands ain’t cheap… I gotta buy the booze, the weed, the gas, the room, the lube, then the ointment, the anti-biotics, it goes on and on and it adds up.
Isaac
The Out article was very enlightening.

Any idea how many gay rags and online sites would be willing to shun Manhunts advertising money? I would be surprised if any would refund their money. An acquaintance of mine describe Manhunt has hot guys for free, all others pay monthly. An organized boycott is very appropriate for folks who financially support anti-gay political parties or candidates.
David
This deserves a larger post.

so there was this log cabin republican cocktail thing the other night in Hells Kitchen. I wandered in for about 2 minutes out of curiosity. Wow. A bunch on sad, paranoid and hostile fags. No women, mind you. Lots of carb-face as well, I wonder if there’s a connection.
hell's kitchen guy
ggreen: I’d be careful about censoring advertisers. That’s a slippery slope. For years, gay advertisers were discriminated against. It cuts both ways.

All self respecting gays should cancle their accounts … what are the best options out there ?
This repuglican will still make money from Asia and Europe …. and the rest of the world.
But he does not need to get good right minded Liberal Democratic money.
As for shunning the ADS — did you know the VERY FAMOUS ADVERTISTING GAY RAG “THE GUIDE” is a fund raising front for NAMBLA — it is.
So lets start by boycotting those advertisers first…. tell your local business community that the GUIDE is NAMBLA fundraising front.
rjp3
BTW — NAMBLA is one or two sick fucks who are considered to also be funded by the anti-gay right wing.
Still THE GUIDE must go.

Polls showed that 1 gay out of 4 voted for Bush in 2004. Just remember: Money talks. A lot. If Crutchley is making tons of mulla he might not want Obama who will increase taxes on higher income households. Hence giving to McCain’s campaign.

It is amazing how many people are willing to sacrifice civil rights for a tax break. What an asshole.
Butterpantz
Ugh…as if Manhunt hasn’t already destroyed the gay social scene now they’re after our basic rights.
Bob R
Why should these guys be concerned about gay rights or gay marriage? They can buy all the rights they want. Gay marriage? Why get officially married and have government mandate rules of your relationship like divorce, community property, alimony and the like? With enough money you can hire the lawyers to draw up all the documents to ensure you have most of the benefits with few of the responsibilities. In that tax bracket, the benefits (if any) of filing a joint return are offset in other ways.
Social Security survivors benefits? Who needs them? The right insurance policies take care of those contingencies. All the wealthy homo cares about is their money and what it can buy. Community doesn’t matter, their community and social circle is not interested in ours unless there’s money to be made. Republican’s are all about greed. I got mine, you get your own.
National defense? Like either of these two would serve in the military, even if they weren’t too old. They’d be sure to “tell” to avoid any military service. Let the poor and other losers serve in the armed forces. The rich have other priorities, making more money.
Everyone despised Leona Helmsley, because she was plain spoken about how it is to be wealthy in America. The wealthy are more often just like Helmsley, but a bit more discreet. This is very much a class society we live in.
Job protection, survivors benefits, partner visitation rights, adoption, marriage rights, etc are all for the “little people” who can’t afford good legal advice. It’s low taxes and lack of business/consumer regulation that the wealthy, including the gay wealthy, are concerned about. Me and my money is the Log Cabin Republican battle cry. The rich are different and they can buy all the justice and civil rights they can afford. Is America a great place or what?

This should DEFINITELY HAVE A LARGER POST. It’s incredibly important that anyone with a manhunt account consider canceling it. Funding the right through our own dongs is backasswords.
All you’ve got to do to cancel (I just did -I forgot I even HAD an Manhunt account- for $30/a month!! DUH) is go into
‘accounts’
click on ‘customer service’
type into the pane to contact customer service and let them know to end your membership asap for _______reasons. It’s easy.
Then check your billing to make sure it really happened.
Cathartic. Actually.. then you could do what I did and post an ad on Craigslist m4m to let others know. Thank you towleroad.
T_t;om
Ok, so there was no information on the home site regarding company policy (as well as from the customer service line) but if any of Towleroads’ users are interested in getting in contract with any company rep. from Manhunt.com, this is the best option

FRIENDS DON’T LET FRIENDS FUCK REPUBLICANS
My patience with gay semi-closeted Republicans is long exhausted. So glad I didn’t renew my Manhunt account after this story first broke. Friends tried to convince me to get back on after the announcement of the funds being returned. Happily I ignored their pleadings. Though I haven’t had a date since cancelling. THAT makes me CRANKY!
Recommended alternatives to Manhunt would be much appreciated. Just don’t tell me to try Craigslist to meet someone. That site is full of married men looking for a decent blowjob. My callused knees and faded gag reflex are no longer available for the momentary delectation of those conflicted and/or cold-hearted men bound by the chains of heterosexual matrimony.
So I am one unforgiving bitch these days and I refuse to give my money to any candidate or business that has acted against the gay community — EVER. Hell, I still don’t drink Coors because Harvey Milk said not to back in the mid-70s.
