Yesterday Sherry Vine delivered an uproarious and outrageous rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s anthemic “True Colors,” so now the iconic entertainer offers her take on a Dolly Parton standard. To help kick off your holidays, Lauper has released her cover of “Hard Candy Christmas,” which technically isn’t a holiday song but we’re not complaining. Parton sang the wistful tune in the 1982 film adaptation of the Broadway musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and it’s understandably become a favorite of her fans over the years. Lauper has released her version as an early teaser for her upcoming album Detour, a collection of her signature takes on classic country songs from the 1950s and ’60s. (The Whorehouse score was written in the ’70s, but, again, we’re not going to quibble.)

Detour will be out sometime in 2016, but “Hard Candy Christmas” will be available for download this Friday. Until then you can enjoy Lauper’s version below.
