The Revelation: Funny Girl
These days Barbra Streisand probably has more popularity as a punchline than as an actress. The star, known for her perfectionism, political outspokenness, and diva demeanor doesnât get enough credit: love her or hate her attitude, sheâs a megawatt talent.
For proof, look no further than her debut film Funny Girl. Streisand scored a Best Actress Oscar for recreating her Broadway performance as comedienne Fanny Brice, the trailblazing sensation that helped pave a way for latter-day female comics from Bette Midler to Amy Schumer to Lisa Lampanelli. Besides showing off Streisandâs range as a comic and dramatic actress, the iconic score by Jule Styne also affords her iconic standards, including âPeople,â âDonât Rain on My Parade,â and âThe Greatest Star.â The film also gets a boost from the handsome presence of Omar Sharif in one of his best performances as Briceâs beau Nicky Arnstein, and from Kay Medford as Briceâs fussy mother. Funny, moving, and with Streisand giving a performance for the ages, Funny Girl is, quite simply, fantastic entertainment.
How about we take this to the next level?

I thought there was a law if you are a gay and donât like Streisand, Garland or Midler you have to turn in your gay card! Is this still true or am I misinformed?

it’s not a law but a strong recommendation… much like wearing a mask đ

Oh and Happy Pride. Most of us already know this but if you are born gay YOU are perfect the way you are. You donât need to change anything about yourself other than you have to get to the gym more often!

Everything you do at the gym can be done more safely and cheaply right at home.

“These days Barbra Streisand probably has more popularity as a punchline …”
i don’t think that’s true at all. her 2016 concert tour brought in $53 million and one of the concerts was picked up by Netflix; her 2018 studio album sold extremely well and was included in Rolling Stone’s list of 20 Best Albums of 2018; she has won three Oscars, four Golden Globes, eight Grammys… i could go on but you get the picture

Agreed. She could be tough to work with but âpunchlineâ doesnât fit and has no basis in fact. As far as I know sheâs never been viewed that way and never will. Pretty disrespectful of one of our greatest talents and forever allies.

Does one person write the headline, one the article? Most of your articles are so poorly written. Maybe hire people who can write, not guys you just want to sleep with?
Punchline? Biggest selling female recording artist, only the Beatles have sold more recordings. Broadway, concerts, motion pictures, books, television. Isnât that good enough for you?
Yooper
That, is film at its best.

If you want some comedy with her, try a movie called “Whats Up Doc”.
