In the very NSFW clip above, Dan Savage and comic Marc Maron throw down on Friday’s Real Time with Bill Maher, accusing Marcus and Michele Bachmann of abuse, both of gay people and government funding.
Savage rips into Marcus Bachmann’s ex-gay therapy clinic by noting that professional medical associations consider such practices a form of abuse. The columnist states, ““You can’t pray away the gay but you can torture a conflicted closet case to death, which is what they practice at clinics like Marcus Bachmann runs when he’s not flitting around.”
Maron chimes in with the first of several increasingly x-rated punchlines, calling the Bachmann’s marriage a “prolonged experiment in reparative therapy.”

Some of the children she “raised” were for a night, a week, a few weeks, maybe a few months. I feel sorry that those kids had to be bounced through that Hell house.
So they did legally get money for those kids. The problem is that between Medicare, Farm Subsidies, and Minnesota mental healthcare the Bachmanns took in about $400,000.00. $130K Medicare, $160 Minnesota, and about $100K in farm subsidies.

Bill Maher can be quite entertaining, if not a perpetually irritated troll. The crabby disposition is a part of his shtick. His adoration for the reptile (larry king) is peculiar, however, and gives away his age.
Savage always goes after the low hanging fruit (e.g., the bachmanns, reparative therapy, against the bigots who are–at least to those unencumbered by a meme–obviously bigoted trash). He’s a guy taking a stand against child abuse and exploitation (“I THINK IT’S WRONG TO ABUSE KIDS!”). Not exactly revelatory, yes? He’s not a particularly incisive thinker, and most of what he says is obvious brand advertisement to advance his career as a professional gay (which is essentially what he is). But it’s good that someone is constantly making the same case ad nauseam about the bigots and gay rights in the noise machine of the mainstream media as a minor celebrity. The sanctimony and self-importance are just a bit tedious at times.

to think that dan savage could generate such a comment post is actually pretty pitiful. but then to come across HIV STIGMA just goes to show how far we have not come since the eighties.

I’m not sure why so many Savage/It gets better queens on this blog are now claiming and denying that Dan Savage is poz phobic? He clearly is and if you’ve read his “advice” column or listened
to his podcasts one can easily see how he has major issues with people who are HIV+ and that he is poz phobic. Or how they’re now revising history and claiming that Savage has never been
