27 year-old Tony Randolph Hunter died on Wednesday morning from complications from a brutal assault near DC’s gay BeBar on Sept. 7th. Hunter was with a few friends when they were jumped by four men on their way out for the night. The police are now investigating the case as a murder and a possible anti-gay hate crime due to the location of the assault. The picture on the left is BeBar, where the group was headed.

Ooops, I nearly mentioned that 4 black youths robbed and killed the man for $15
Naughty of me.
Now I am in trouble!
ryandavis
Tallskin, that is your 2nd racist comment of the day! Just keeping track for ya.
Cam
Be bar is in a “Transitional” neighborhood in DC. There are several African American Baptist congregations nearby that fought for over a year to keep BeBar from opening. They very much stoked the anti-gay flames of the neighborhood. This is a very well known business in the area. If the thugs say that they did not know it is a gay bar they are lying, it was the subject of every sermon in every church in that area for an entire year.

The victim was black, you idiot. But that probably makes you happy to see a black gay guy beaten to death.
tallskin
Charles, the victim was gay. But hadn’t you noticed that in your pathetic attempt to score cheap debating points???
And no, dumbo, I am always concerned when gays are bashed.
charles
I don’t think it’s cheap to point out that you clearly think “gay”=”white” in your sad closed mind and that your hatred has warped you. You’re more obsessed with who did the bashing that with the victim and you don’t seem to care about preventing them from happening in the first place. And you’re clearly obsessed with black people to an odd extreme.
ryandavis
I think this brings Tallskins racist comments today to 4? It’s hard to count them when I’ve gotta be blogging!
tallskin
Charles, do tell me how we prevent such attacks then? since you say that: “You’re more obsessed with who did the bashing that with the victim and you don’t seem to care about preventing them from happening in the first place”
I await your reply.
As for the rest of your reply, well, it isn’t worth answering.
ryandavis
Tallskin, maybe you’re right! Maybe the only way we really can prevent hate crimes is to say racist things in comments at blogs. You’re right. That’s gonna work. I don’t know why I didn’t see it before. Kudos.

“Charles, do tell me how we prevent such attacks then? since you say that: “You’re more obsessed with who did the bashing that with the victim and you don’t seem to care about preventing them from happening in the first place””
I don’t know…the police should do their job? The bar was in a bad neighborhood and had bad relations with the neighbors-there should have been more thorough patrols because of that. And the victim laid there for an extended period of time before help came. Maybe if there had been a better police presence he would have gotten to the hospital faster and he would have survived. And better relations between the cops and the gay ‘community’ would help. Lobbying the local government and using examples such as this crime wouldn’t hurt. And gay men should maybe consider learning to protect themselves in a worst case scenario.
But whatever…I think I should grow a brain and not bother engaging you-you are trying to stir up shit and I was stupid to react. You are not worth it-and I stand by everything I said about you.
tallskin
Ryandavies, your solution to the problem (and I note you don’t try and deny that black anti gay attacks are off the scale, so you have some brains at least!) seems to be that we don’t mention the race of the thugs doing the attacking!
You’re right, that is going to work.
It really doesn’t bother me having “racist” screamed at me, cos I have been involved in gay politics here in London and black community reps and their white lefty colleagues will always try and shut down debate anyway they can – thus it like water flowing off a duck’s back!
I am still awaiting Charles’ solution to the problem of gay bashing that he indicated he had- but I suspect I will be waiting on her in vain to hear it, eh?
tallskin
Ok Charles our respective posts must’ve crossed in the ether!
I agree with you that the police should be tackled as to why they weren’t patrolling in greater strength in the area! But maybe, just maybe, in the past the police have been accused of racism by “community activists” cos they tried to crack down on the area’s high crime, and they are therefore shy of such accusations (unlike me).
But I don’t know. All I can report is that the blacks here in Brixton accused the police of racism in similar circumstance and when the police withdrew, after riots, the amount of crime went up.

Guys … as a resident of that area and one who lives 4 blocks from BeBar ….
The neighborhood is transitional and constantly has shootings occur within one-two block of BeBar. The City and MPD are well-aware of the issues as is our City Councilman – however, he is more concerned with the happenings in the much more affluent Georgetown neighborhood and giving away $$$ to large developers than he is with the problems of the Shaw neighborhood where BeBar is located. Muggings/robberies around that area occur almost daily .. shootings between rival gand members take place at anytime during the day … crime in Shaw is not taken seriously.
The church mentioned (Shiloh Baptist Church on 9th Street NW) regularly makes calls to MPD for supposed violations hoping to get the reports up so that their liquor license isn’t renewed. This is the same church that tried to keep an Ethiopian restaurant from getting a liquor license but allows the liquor store across the street to remain open with no complaints/protests. Had these crimes directly impacted the Church … you can bet that the DC Government would have acted upon it … instead, they sit back and look at all their boarded up buildings (they own and pay little if any taxes on). The neighborhood can only improve if the buildings are allowed to be renovated – the Church refuses to do so.

I have done a little internet research and have found that there is a history of recent anti-gay attacks going back a while.
See the links if you’re interested, particularly read the comments by people who have written in – but the attackers are overwhelmingly blacks from the equivalent of the local council estates.

One commentator says: “ot to create any controversy here, but although I’ve never been physicall attacked (thank God), I’ve been verbally assaulted numerous times just walking in my neighborhood. And it’s always by the same crowd…African American juvenile deliquents. This isn’t race baiting or racial profiling, but my own personal experience. They clearly have a bone to pick with those of us “gentrifying” their neighborhood, but that doesn’t give them a right or a valid reason to attack their own neighbors. I think it stems largely from poor parenting, as their parents likely harbor the same homophobic and racist tendencies as their children. ”
He clearly sees the attacks as being homophobic and anti-white by the black assailants.
JJJJ
The politically-correct don’t like to hear the facts, Tallskin. But my sympathy is with black gays in black neighborhoods. You gotta admit they have it rougher.
gkruz
I know nothing of this DC neighborhood, but for what it’s worth, my personal experience is that black straight men, and especially young black straight men, are much more homophobic, trans-phobic, and misogynistic than most of their white counterparts, and more likely to act on it as well. Secondly, there is currently a wave of violent homophobia spreading across the black diaspora from Africa to the Caribbean, and here it is black gays, lesbians and trans-people who are the primary targets. Thirdly, regarding the church in question and its “boarded up buildings (they own and pay little if any taxes on)”, this is but one more example of why churches need to be taxed as the businesses they really are, instead of getting tax exemptions based upon their alleged “spirituality” and “service to the community.”
Mr C
Well GKRUZ,
Your statement is really without merit. Because if you go to the South and Midwest in rural areas the same thing happens in much worse fashion. Where bodies are found in rivers, shacks, etc.
The only thing is it doesn’t get reported on the evening news as it does in the innner cities.
So I think that folks need to just look at the situation and stop basing percentages according to race. Because that only shows your prejudice and trying to tie that group of people to the crime.
And as far as churches go they are all HOMPHOBIC from The Southern Baptist (Predominately White) to The Church of God In Christ (Predominately Black)to The Catholic Church (Every Race)
It’s not race it’s IDEOLOGY and home training that feeds this nasty venom.
JJJJ
It’s not ideology. It’s just stupidity as opposed to intelligence. Look how gays are treated in Japan as opposed to the African countries.
Mr C
OK, But for those who tend to blame African Americans
Check this one out!

It’s not about race people.
CHURCHILL-Y
“But maybe, just maybe, in the past the police have been accused of racism by “community activists” cos they tried to crack down on the area’s high crime, and they are therefore shy of such accusations (unlike me).”
Accurate and on point as always, Tall.
But hey black GLBTs would rather see their ‘brothaz’ not being made accountable for the crimes they commit against Gay people.
I keep telling ya Tallskin, race trumps logic, safety and justice to this people.
And don’t let anyone tell you its any different here in States, if anything is much much worse as this incident shows.
Mr C
Faggot ass chittyshiity-Y,
Say what???Whose protecting them?????? tell us idiot.
You stupid rabid racist queens are always trying to flip the script on shit you read online and from a WHITE BIAS point of view.
Bruce
He was my friend and you all argue about stupid shit. Its easy for people to assume its easy to rob a dude cause they gay. They figure they can’t defend themselves. Its crazy.. I’m tired of reading about a gay man before his name. Had he been going to a different place you wouldn’t even know by looking at him he was gay. Its fucked up.
