I used to listen to rap. I listened to rap, quite possible, for longer than you’ve been alive. In fact, I was part of a crew in the late eighties and early nineties. However, I had to walk away from it when I realised that homophobia was the new rule in rap.
And yes, some lyrics can help, but most are just flossing and bragging and trahsing people. However, I will never forget during an interview Ice-T gave in Toronto in 1991, where he said he never trashed gay people in his music and never uses anti-gay slurs because gay people have never done anything to him and there were other people that he’d rather attack and he thought homophobia was childish and showed the ignorance in the people who used it.
