“Southwest Airlines is denying that it donated money to the Yes on 8 campaign. The gay-friendly airline appeared as a non-monetary donor on reports filed by the Mormon church. The information was made public by the California Secretary of State.” [Instant Pride]
Did Southwest Airlines Support Prop 8?

@David – It’s to bad you couldn’t embed the video with Southwest’s response in the post. Southwest has been very supportive of the gay community for years. I hope people click the link.

@Sebbe:
I just clicked on the link and watched the video about Southwest Airlines.
One has to wonder if the tickets that the LSD Church bought from Soutwest at regular fare, were in fact ever used or were purchased for no other reason than to manipulate their accounting to make it look like Southwest Airlines was a supporter of Prop 8?
Odd accounting practices, to say the least, when money spent on airline travel, which is an expense, shows up on their books as a donation???
I’m a little confused. Did I miss something in the video?

@Charles – seems weird to me too. I suspect it is something weird the magic undie folks are doing with their books and financial disclosures. Doesn’t seem fair to an airline to be labeled a supporter for any cause because some organization flew on them.

Dare I say it? The LDS church folks responsible for reporting their prop 8-related monies are none too bright. As much as we’d like to chalk it up to that church’s pure state of evil, it’s most likely the fact that the people involved don’t know their heads from their asses.
Sebbe
@bruno – unfortunately it seems the ones at the top do know what there doing. They are essentially running their own nation there and as such have top notch lawyers, accountants and consultants.
That’s even scarier to me than just a bunch of idiots (that would be the followers, or parishioners or whatever it is that they call them).

It is called election fraud. And hopefully a felony. This should be scrupulously followed up and criminal charges filed. Christians, indeed. Too bad religious fraud is not a crime.

I have a friend who works in HR at Southwest in Dallas. He said it’s not true and he is Gay and Southwest is very Gay Friendly.

I have always been impressed with Southwest’s outreach.
I spoke to a tax attorney friend of mine and while this is not his area of expertise. He told me that he suspected it could be something as simple as someone (a private person) donated the tickets to the church. Although I am the first to vilify anything to do with people who wear magic underwear, he doubted whether it was “technically” or “legally” election fraud. Ethics of course are another issue. Often ethics are a failure with the religious though.

I can’t believe that Southwest would support Prop 8. There are too many gay men working for the airline for that to be true. A close gay friend of mine works for Southwest and he loves his job with them.

That was amply demonstrated by the lies that supporters of Proposition 8 told in order to get it passed at the polls.
We know from experience that the fundies and magic undies crowd are not above twisting the truth, convoluting the facts and just outright lying in order to get their way.
Since Southwest Airlines being gay-friendly is a given and not helpful to their cause, it would nut surprise me in the least that the LDS Church might stoop to such minutia just to make the public think that this is yet one more important company that supports their viewpoints on one man plus one woman marriage.
