The National Lesbian And Gay Journalist Association wants to let LGBT people across the United States know where they can turn whenever they need local LGBT news, but they need your help.
By checking out their state-by-state “LGBT Media Map” you can see if they’ve listed the local queer paper or blogger in your state. If they haven’t included it yet, just send along a name (and a link if possible) to [email protected] If they have listed your local paper, then why not show some love with a small donation or e-mail of thanks for serving your area.
LGBT publications can be tough to keep afloat, but they remain one of our most vital community resources. Even Queerty would not exist if it weren’t for your support.

Iowa’s 25-year-old newspaper for the LGBT and HIV+ communities in Iowa was not on the list at the time you posted this article. We have sent an email to correct the oversight.
Thanks, QUEERTY, for sharing this post!

My friend across country who edits the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley in Rochester, NY will feel ignored by this list.

Also, isn’t Joe My God a gossipy blogger? I wouldn’t call him a journalist.

Cool. Small/rural/suburb areas likely have community newsletters by centers or groups.
I am working to restart an LGBT group in my hometown, Yuba-Sutter which is 45 mins north of Sacramento and 45 mins south of Chico. Even though we are near those areas this area is very hostile towards LGBT folk.
If you also live in another small/rural/suburb area without an LGBT group but you think there should be one, please contact me and let’s see if we can start a nationwide group to ensure all small/rural/suburb area are not left behind.
All LGBT communities have a few key needs:
Social opportunities: dances, potlucks, dinners, movie night, bar nights, networking with welcoming mainstream groups and faith communities
Support: coming out and gender identity support groups, PFLAG-type support for families, and the support that comes from people part of an LGBT group looking out for one another, equipping LGBT folk to access social services
Community involvement: advocacy in response to LGBT-relevant issues, tabling at public events to promote group
Even if you don’t think you can make all of this happen but want to start something at least, let’s talk.
At [email protected] I can be reached.
You can see a documentary trailer about what I have done with the LGBT community here:

I have tried ten times to log-in the the website listed in the artical to list three gay publications in my area, but each time I receive a pop-up stating that this web-site does not exist. Can you please get them to repost the correct e-mail address!

This map was made by some person who doesnt know USA geography. There are many newspapers not listed on the map. Start with NY State. The state does not end at the Manhattan border. Rochester, Buffalo, and a few other cities have gay media.
New Jersey has a monthly magazine. It is easy to find these publications, he just needs to look.

I live in Anderson S.C. so unfortunately no we do not have any gay publications or newspapers here. Its a bigoted backwoods town that seems to be stuck constantly in the back there are racists homophobes etc…. where I live.I hate my town always have always will.

It’s a good idea, but it’s not accurate. Under DC, it lists Slate and a blog on the Washington Post that aren’t really gay oriented at all.
