“I want to thank the Tennessee legislature for their consideration of a bill to erect a statue of me on the Capitol grounds. I am honored and humbled by their intention but I have asked the leaders of the state legislature to remove the bill from any and all consideration.
Given all that is going on in the world, I don’t think putting me on a pedestal is appropriate at this time. I hope, though, that somewhere down the road several years from now or perhaps after I’m gone if you still feel I deserve it, then I’m certain I will stand proud in our great State Capitol as a grateful Tennessean. In the meantime, I’ll continue to try to do good work to make this great state proud.”–National treasure and gay icon Dolly Parton, declining a proposal to erect a statue of her at the Tennessee Capitol. In addition to her work as a musician and actress, Parton won wide praise late last year for donating $1 million to finance research into Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s COVID-19 vaccine program, and directly lead to the development of the Moderna vaccine.

THIS IS the voice of a true American Patriot and Hero!

Every fake Christian Republican, this is who you should be trying to emulate. Helps people, kind, and humble. Class act indeed.
Creamsicle
Parton shows she’s a class act every single day!
I will never stop loving her for the Imagination Library Foundation alone. Her organization will send children in America, Canada, and I believe another nation a free age-appropriate book every month to children registered with the program from BIRTH to the age of 5. It’s amazing work for both literacy and parent-child bonding.
On top of that, several years back, Parton donated millions of dollars in shelter and support payments to wildfire survivors in Tennessee. I can see why anyone would want to pay tribute to the woman, and I love her even more for forgoing the honor in light of all the other important work that needs to be done right now.

Dolly said it’s expensive to look that cheap. She now proves that she has a lot class to look that cheap
missvamp
love her more every day!

A VERY EXCELLENT EXAMPLE of how HATEFUL AND IGNORANT, and RACIALLY BIGOTED ‘Northern’, ‘West Coast’ and other ELITE SNOTS are when YOU call people ‘Southern rednecks’, ‘Appalachian hillbillies’, ‘White Trash’, ‘trailer trash’. ‘racist crackers’, etc.
Openminded
Excellent comment, RQS. This site is a good example of how ignorant people can be by labeling groups with hateful adjectives.
Cam
@rural queer socialist and @openminded.
I’ve told you multiple times that it just makes your trolling under multiple screenames even more obvious when you switch names to compliment your own right wing posts.
But what’s really sad about this post is that you make it obvious your goal is to attack whatever your version of liberals is this week, apparently it’s “west coast snots”.
Parton is amazing and SHE has disagreed with the racism and the anti-LGBTQ bigotry that is rampant in her home state.
But what’s even funnier is you can’t point to any specific examples of “West Coasters” doing what you accuse them of, but there are sure tons of examples of people from Georgia mocking people from Alabama, people from Texas mocking people from Mississippi etc..
So, to recap, you were busted using using multiple screenames to try to compliment your own post, and your comment has nothing to do with Parton but is just another excuse for you to be a Trump troll and attack “The Coasts”.
As I’ve said before, your troll game is old and boring.

I’m from the Deep South and I know a lot of redneck homophobic racist crackers. Dolly’s awesomeness doesn’t change that.
LeBlevsez
Dolly Parton is Southern, Appalachian, and white, and received nothing but well-warranted praise here, so I’m not sure why your knickers are knotted. “Redneck” and “hillbilly” aren’t particularly helpful descriptors (although a friend from childhood born in a West Virginia holler is proud of her hillbilly heritage). “White trash” is a term coined by white people to disparage white folks who didn’t toe the Jim Crow line and dared to speak well of or associate with Black people, so your anger there is just the result of ignorance. As for “racist cracker”, if the saltine fits….
Cam
That’s a new screename for the same right wing troll acount that always comes in to defend bigots and attack LGBTQ victims, liberals, women, and minorities.

The United States of Dolly. Everyone loves this amazing woman. She is someone special, far beyond her looks at talent, and has proven just how kind, humane, and genuine she is.

I live in Knoxville, Tennessee. Dolly really is a national treasure. I’ve heard some people state, “Yeah, but she’s one of the rich.” Sure, she’s rich but you have to put this in perspective. Do you know why she’s only a millionaire and not a billionaire? She gives away THAT much money.

And she sure as heck wasn’t born rich. Not that there’s anything wrong with being born rich but Dolly has NEVER forgotten where she came from. Love her.

Jolene was magnificent but this is why we truly love Dolly Parton.

I grew up just outside Nashville near Dollys home. She was always wonderful and though she was one of the biggest stars in the world she was always known for being sweet and delightful in person. You never hear anything bad about Dolly and if anyone does have anything negative to say it’s probably best kept to themselves
I can’t say that I carry a lot to be proud of about Tennessee or the south. It’s not proven to be a kind place for anyone that doesn’t fit it’s small definition of acceptable but Dolly is the exception and an example that the greatest light is found in the darkest places.
cuteguy
We don’t need a statue to already know she’s a true American treasure
