As we edge closer to Tuesday’s implementation of the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell repeal, Queerty is taking a look back at the some of the stories that have brought us to this point.
Well look who’s come around on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell: war criminal Donald Rumsfeld, who’s on a book tour to rewrite history and absolve himself of any wrongdoing with the Iraq war.
“First of all, we know that gays and lesbians have been serving in the military for decades with honorable service,” Rumsfeld tells ABC. “We know that [repeal of a ban on gays serving openly] is an idea whose time has come.” But he still has “enormous respect” for any commanders who think gays should stay in the closet.
Way to strike while the iron’s hot, buddy.

“”But he still has “enormous respect” for any commanders who think gays should stay in the closet.””

So back in Truman’s day, he would still have had “Enormous Respect” for Commanders that thought the military shouldn’t have been integrated?
Can we stop pretending that bigotry is a “Valid” opinion now?
ewe
There is something human MISSING in Donald Rumsfield. I cannot put my finger on it but whatever it is, he doesn’t have it.
ewe
Silly me, It’s a BRAIN!!!
Adam
So brave to support DADT repeal AFTER it’s already a done deal. Fuck you, dude!

Rummy is grasping for whoever he can get to support him, sad. History will judge him harshly as one of the worst defense secretary in history. Not only did he lie about Iraq, he got caught. Whether one agrees with the war or not, it was one of the most poorly managed wars in this era. He revamped all of the war plans and threw out the wise judgment of military officers and other cabinet officials to press his own idea of how the battle should be fought. A smarter plan could have potentially saved over a thousand American lives and a hundred thousand Iraqis. If he thought that GBLT could serve than why didn’t he come out and support it like Colin Powell last December when the administration was fighting to get votes? Don version of history will always have him on the right side. He is a truly dangerous individual, and if it wasn’t for the brilliant Sec. Robert Gates, that had to swoop in after Bush finally had the scenes to dump this failure, Iraq would have completely collapsed putting an inextricable economic albatross on Americas neck. As If the trillion dollars on the Bush wars wasn’t enough.

‘But he still has “enormous respect” for any commanders who think gays should stay in the closet.’ … hardly a surprise no matter what he thinks about it – check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaP7ZrmkcuU for a picture of him showing “enormous respect” to a really dubious character earlier in his career.

Fuck you Rummy the Dummy.
You carried out torture which was a violation of the Geneva Convention which further eroded America’s already tenuous reputation in the Middle East and Central Asia. And then, lied under oath when addressing the Congress of the United States.
There’s a reason why this Bush-era scalawag can’t set foot in Europe. He could be arrested and hauled before the Hague and charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Do the world a favor and drop dead.

Donald Rumfeld is a lizard.
ewe
No one needs Donald Rumsfeld or his opinion of himself. who cares. The approval of any heterosexual is unnecessary.
prohomo
It doesn’t matter what this evil WAR CRIMINAL has to say. The government uses poor men and women for fodder in fighting their wars in order to get their grubby hands on the money. That’s all they really give a shit about.
Jim in St Louis
Rummy has not been charged with diddly-squat. Well that is not true, he has been charged with everything from baby killing to drug peddling, but every charge thrown at him has not stuck. He is a very smart and very wise statesman. He led the DoD during the scariest time in the past 25 years, and I think led it with professionalism.
If anybody has any EVIDENCE of wrong doing then it would be moral of you to present it. If all you have is weak half truths that are culled from Wash Post editorials then STFU.
p.s. I absolutely LOVE the changing definition of the word ‘lie’. What does it mean today? Well that depends if Obama/Clinton/Weiner/Pelosi/Ried are on the front page or if Bush/Cheney/Bohner/McCain are making headlines.
Politically Incorrect Thug
@Jim in St Louis: Right on, Jim. Glad to see someone else will occasionally call out the vicious, vile haters on the left who believe they represent all things good and benevolent. If these tools can cite a single “war crime” of Rumsfeld’s, then produce it so that he can be tried and convicted. Alas, all they have to resort to is childish name-calling.
Politically Incorrect Thug
@prohomo: A friendly word of advice: If you believe your country’s government is so corrupt and evil, then fucking LEAVE! Go. Move. Relocate to a better place. I hear the middle-east is extremely gay-friendly with their Sharia Laws. You won’t be missed here, I assure you.
prohomo
@Politically Incorrect Thug: I am in a better place. I’m Canadian.
Little Kiwi
<—- same as prohomo.
i'm always stunned when people say "Go live somewhere where there's Sharia Law!" as if that makes the US "look better."
That's like getting a failing grade in school and then comparing your marks with the kids in Special Ed.
When you're comparing your country to some third-world ravaged war-torn nation you know you're being ridiculous. Compare your country with the best, if you truly believe it's so great.
"Sharia Law"? why not any of THESE places?

@Little Kiwi: Hey, swell, fine, go live in Europe where their promises of lifetime entitlements have become as realistic as the riotors who set fire to their cities when the hand-outs run dry. And if your handle is an indication that you’re from N.Z., then you have no business sticking your nose in our affairs. When you’re an openly gay man living in Iran, then you can say “I told you so.” If I don’t hear back, I’ll assume they killed you.
@prohomo: Seriously—a Canuck making a judgment on American politics? The obvious question is: Why do you care, eh? If Canada is the land of milk and honey, why would you be perusing a website from the likes of a despicable country like the U.S.? Stick to your own territory, eh? But I suspect that your intrigue in our political affairs are just a little too juicy to pass up, which is why you’re not posting similar opinions on websites that would like to see you and our kind dead. Get back to me when you do.
Little Kiwi
Hey, Politically Incorrect Thug, how about you try some clear direct honesty and just say whom you voted for in the last Presidential Election? Why can’t you just answer that.
You’re very funny, though. You can only make America look good by comparing it to Iran? Next you’ll be bragging about being the sexiest athlete at the Special Olympics.
😉
So, since you’re a proud patriotic American, whom did you vote for in the last Presidential Election? I’m genuinely curious, and since you’re such a big brave man I’m sure you’ll have no problem telling us all whom it was.
Thanks!
Little Kiwi
“When you’re an openly gay man living in Iran, then you can say “I told you so.””
Or Canada, where LGBT people have full rights and freedoms and protections. Unlike the USA, which still has anti-gay discrimination written into law in most States.
You keep suggesting it’s only America or Iran/Third World. Do you not know of any other countries? 😉
Politically Incorrect Thug
@Little Kiwi: I suspect you’re trying to bait me into saying something idiotic like “I love Sarah Palin” but I won’t. If you must know, like most other Americans with a shred of common sense, I voted for McCain, since the only administrative experience Obama had was . . . was . . . was . . . hmm, I’ll get back to you when I can think of a single accomplishment the man had (oh wait that’s right! He was a teacher! Who wrote an autobiography! What a king!) It was obvious the man was a nobody who’d never accomplished anything—except being our country’s first affirmative action president.
delurker
aww, the goprouders are defending their second fave war criminal (cheney’s the frist). what charming little fascists they are!
Politically Incorrect Thug
@delurker: And please, again, explain exactly what war crimes Rumsfeld and Cheney are guilty of. And then please explain why neither has ever been charged for violating the Geneva Convention. I suspect your only desperate explanation is the same song you’ve been singing for decades: Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy.
prohomo
@Politically Incorrect Thug: Really, a Canadian shouldn’t judge the joke that is American Politics?! You load of brown-nosing, deluded fuck, I know more about the world than you do, navel-gazer.
Mav
Can you say “syncophant”, boys and girls?
I knew you could. =)
Mav
“And then please explain why neither has ever been charged for violating the Geneva Convention.”
^ Because the United States runs the United Nations, I’d imagine.
