Update: ‘Drag Race’ queen’s story about a fatal Uber crash may have been made up
RuPaul’s Drag Race season eight contestant Robbie Turner (aka Jeremy Baird) was the victim of a drunk driving accident over the weekend, and while Turner made it out of the experience physically unharmed, the driver of the Uber he was in lost his life.
It absolutely goes without saying, but… Do. Not. Drink. And. Drive.
Ever.
No exceptions.
Don’t do it.
Many of us have been in situations where we’ve observed this exceedingly simple rule go unfollowed, and what can seem like a potential inconvenience in the moment can end lives in an instant.
Turner took to Twitter to share the harrowing details:
I just woke up. I’ve been in a car accident. I didn’t recollect it. I’m not certain what happened. My driver did not survive.
I’m home with barely a scratch, but when I was informed of what actually happened, my closest family and friends came to mind.
Wear a seatbelt. I did.

Last night on my way home my Uber was struck by a drunk driver. I closed my eyes briefly & it happened. I heard it, but hit my head & it was over. They ran tests at the hospital, but outside of my shoulder feeling jammed & my right eye hurting, I only have a bruise. Grateful.

What a sad situation, but I’m so glad Robbie is okay. She is one of my favorite queens and love watching her perform at Queer Bar Seattle.

Self absorbed? I don’t think you read the article and his feelings of love and gratitude for his life.
The Uber driver would likely have been a stranger to him. He may not have known his name.
And if he did, it wouldn’t be his place to name him publicly.
No offense, but your comment is rather cold all things considered.

I could not agree with you more. It is Queerty after all. They are like, lets make the non-victim drag queen into the real victim. And how do you like the click-bait title. It’s like they don’t even try anymore.
‘Drag Race’ contestant involved in fatal drunk driving accident.

BC- This is a site about LGBTQ news and culture. Drag fits into that. It’s pretty f*cking annoying when you folks b*tch about LGBTQ topics and then in the same freaking day, there’s a story on the sister site, LGBTQ Nation with people bitching because the Starbucks story isn’t about a LGBTQ person.
This story is about a draglebrity in our community who was in a car accident. The story wasn’t in the media. The information came directly from Turner’s social media. It’s sad there was a death involved. Turner didn’t name the Uber driver or give any further details. If stories about drag queens bother you so, there’s a simple solution. Don’t come here or if you can’t control yourself, don’t click on stories about drag queens.
I suspect your real problem other than being a sour, negative wet rag, is that you don’t like drag queens. Either way, grow up and stop being a p*rick.

As callus as that comment might seem…I have to agree with you.
I mean, it’s not like the Uber drivers name is right there on your phone.
I got into a car accident when I was 22, and damn if I still remember the other driver’s name. And it was not as nearly as serious as this one.

I don’t know id self absorbed is the write word but I do know that if I was in an fatal accident, the bery FIRST thought would go to the person who lost their life giving me a ride home. That shoud have been the very FIRST tweet….then the res which is rather lovely and thought provoking
hwc2016
What’s up with the clown look? i notice a lot of younger drag queens going with this look…
Ummmm Yeah
Wow. The whole story is made up and they didn’t even catch that.

The song “Sometimes” was quoted. It was recorded by the Carpenters and written by Felice and Henry Mancini. I didn’t see any attribution. Yes, it’s a lovely song but it’s not at all original.
kille31
WOW, Thats sick, how can anyone just make a story like that?
Nick Starr-Street
It’s all a lie. There is no police evidence of a DEATH, no 911 call, no hospital records, nor coroner report. The next tweet is about promoting a gig? Seriously? This person is a known liar and story teller in the Seattle community. She/he’s posted about having Leukemia and an iPhone mugging in broad daylight with lots of people around and there’s never been a shred of evidence to back up her tall tales. Do some research like The Stranger did and you will find that this is a lie from a know liar.
jd.cali
Wow! Thank you for posting that. That’s beyond disappointing

I know plenty of drag queens and drag kings. And I know how obsessed they can get with it all. And I know that attention seeking is a strong attribute among drag queens and kings. And unverified reports missing key details are a strong indicator of BS. So if you don’t like fact-checking, then stop complaining about people pointing out the obvious.
Daniel-Reader
Well, that answers my question I asked above which was met with derision but turned out to be a sound question to ask.
ChrisK
What question? Oh yeah. Looks like queerties been doing some serious deletions once again.
