Michael K, the vulgar (and adorable) blogger behind DListed.com, is splitting the sexes! Based on his interview with The Awl, men love him while women hate him. While this blogger has never met him, the bossman David Hauslaib assures us Michael is a personable, clever fellow, and does not always speak in four-letter words.

I LOVE Michael K. He’s colloquial as hell and I could read his sharp vernacular for HOURS.
BTW, I’m a 23 year old woman.

Michael K is really, really entertaining as are many of his reader’s comments. I find that a significant percentage of his regular comments are from women, so I think there may be a misperception.

Those nice four letter words have a point. If that is the only language you can use then it makes you look like you are less intelligent then you really are. However, if you use them sparingly and only to emphasize points then I’m all for it. I had a college professor who has taught longer than I have been alive who did his dissertation on the usage of the word “fuck” in the English language.

I know I’ll be alone here, but the problem isn’t that Michael K is vulgar (that’s his best shit), but that he obsessively uses misogynistic slurs. Every dumb fuck is a “ho” or a “bitch.” Yes, society sees these slurs as just common profanity (“vulgarity”), but (until quite recently) they thought the same of homophobic slurs.
Slurs dehumanize and demonize groups, which only leads to violence. Gender violence is notorious in just about any country in the damn world. And part of that is due to the fact we love our misogynistic slurs, as words shape the perceptions that define our very reality.
I’m not even 30, but even I have tired of this whole misogynistic bigotry shit. It’s not edgy even.

Also: if slurs are no problem for him (or others here), why doesn’t he obsessively use homophobic, racist, or antisemitic slurs?

@Pete: If women didn’t identify with hos and bitches, there’d be no problem.
He calls some idiot (Jon Gosselin, for example) a ho. Women get upset because he’s calling a man a ho? Women call each other hos and sluts and bitches all the time. If they think gay men all act like women, why can’t a gay man say slut or bitch or ho? It’s like, “Don’t call people hos unless they’re women, and then don’t call us hos unless you’re a woman and we’re friends!” It’s like when the little loud one on Project Runway called everyone a tranny. It’s not offending anyone, it’s inclusive. If everyone’s a tranny, then no one’s a tranny, and everyone’s equal and happy and there’s rainbows and butterflies, and Walt Disney comes out of his freezer and moonwalks over the sun with Michael Jackson and I forgot where I was going with this…
Anyways, calling someone a ho because they sleep with anything with penis-like periphernilia is more validated than calling someone a n*gg*r or ch*nk for…what? What would validate calling someone that? Stealing? Being thrifty? Those are negative stereotypes. Women should be happy when men are called hos. They’re always complaining about how a loose woman is called a ho or a slut but men are called womanizers or players. Michael K calls everyone a slut, but stands up for the women, and is proud of the many “skanks” in Hollywood.
This whole thing didn’t make any sense, I just tried to attach a bunch of separate thoughts, I think. Sorry…
