It’s a darned Sapphic week in home entertainment, with a little 007 SPECTRE action thrown in for bombast.
Daniel Craig’s James Bond finally gets to the bottom of a criminal conspiracy in Spectre, Lily Tomlin plays a non-nonsense lesbian who comes to her granddaughter’s aid in Grandma, and a lesbian tries to break her cycle of easy-come-easy-go relationships in Portrait Of A Serial Monogamist.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
($39.99 Bu-ray, $29.98 DVD; 20th Century Fox)
In Daniel Craig’s fourth outing as 007, Bond finally uncovers the criminal network that has been causing trouble for him — and killed quite a few of his comrades, including Dame Judi Dench’s M, and one true love, Vesper Lynd — since Casino Royale. A different vibe than Skyfall, which is admittedly the new gold standard for Bond movies, but nonetheless filled with international eye candy, cray cray stunts, and a couple of memorable new villains we surely will see more of. Extras include seven featurettes.
($34.99 Blu-ray, $26.99 DVD; Sony)
Lily Tomlin takes on her first leading film role in ages as Elle, a deliciously prickly, 70-something lesbian poet-intellectual whose granddaughter, Sage (Julia Garner), shows up at her doorstep in need of $600 for an abortion. Since the appointment is set for 5:45 p.m. that day, the pair embark on a quest for cash that leads them to the baby’s deadbeat dad-to-be, Elle’s transgender tattooist friend Deathy (played by Laverne Cox), and a handful of other folks from the past. An LGBT dramedy gem, with Tomlin in prime form and some great supporting turns by the likes of Judy Greer and Marcia Gay Harden to boot. Extras include a making-of featurette, Q&A, and commentary.
Portrait of a Serial Monogamist
($24.95 DVD; Wolfe)
In this sparkling lesbian rom-com (a lomcom, perhaps?), newly single 40-something Toronto TV producer Elsie is challenged to break her habit of rapid-fire serial monogamy — as soon as she breaks up, she finds someone new, gets restless, rinse, cycle, repeat — by remaining single for five months. Of course, then life throws a wrench, or more specifically a hot younger woman named Lollie, into the works… Extras include deleted scenes.
