As if the James Franco–Seth Rogen comedy The Interview needed more buzz around it, a scene has been leaked (officially, it seems) in which rapper Eminem comes out as gay. The controversial film follows journalists enlisted to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and it wouldn’t be a Franco-Rogen comedy without strong homoerotic undertones and their latest features a scene in which Franco obsessively sniffing his smelly genitals. Now we learn that Eminem, notorious for his homophobic lyrics although he claims to have no issues with LGBT people, is indeed a good sport. It must be a Christmas miracle!
“When I say things about gay people, people think that my lyrics are homophobic, it’s because I’m gay,” the rapper tells Franco’s startled talk show host character.
“I’m more shocked that people haven’t figured it out yet,” Eminem adds, in a most deadpan, matter-of-fact manner. “I’ve been playing gay peek-a-boo for years. I’ve pretty much been leaving a gay bread crumb trail.”
If only life could imitate art.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The comedy had been pulled from its planned theatrical release due to threats of violence by Guardians of Peace, a computer hacking group which claimed responsibility for a destructive cyberattack on Sony Pictures last month, but has now been made available for viewing online and it opened in 300 movie theaters on Christmas day. Box office analysts predict the film grossed $1 million in its first day and could make a few more over the coming weekend.

I was laughing when I first saw that. He said it so nonchalantly and which such a straight face… no pun intended
Chris
I think that he’s grown up — a lot. I’ve always liked his command of the English language and respected the amount of work he put into rapping. Now, I actually am starting to like him as the human being that he seems to present himself as being.
jwtraveler
I guess you hadda be there.
Curty
His homophobic obsession is very disturbing and one must wonder if some of his deug issues is because of it. This dude needs to just go away for good
Sammy Schlipshit
Bullshit!!!!!
I don’t believe he is a decent, accepting man for a second.
It’s all about the money.
He will say or act in any manner in order to get people to work with him.
Our supporters, hopefully, give him some resistance when he tries to get them to either sing…er…rap with him, produce his records or support his career.
It’s always about the money.
He is a trickster. His playing that part in that ridiculous movie is just his arrogant way of trash talking to our brothers again.
Anyone who has ever said the things he has is clearly a mean, homophobe who will say or do anything to anyone.
He’s a thug. He isn’t smart enough to practice sarcasm.
Kieran
You know what’s really funny? Blondie’s real name is Marshall Mathers.
Kieran
Even better, Marshall Bruce Mathers the turd.
Curty
His homophobic lyrics over the years suggest a guy too interested in gays. Dude has some real mental health issues. He’s still an asshole
McShane
This movie looks absolutely terrible. I honestly can’t believe how much press this has received. If it wasn’t for the hack and people crying about freedom of speech, this bull plop movie would have been straight to video on demand.
This movie should have never seen the light of day.
Having Eminem come out as gay in a fake interview, in a terrible movie. So edgy. How the fuuuuuck is that even relevant? Eminem has been over for a while, he only pops up in the news when he does dumb sh!t. Like this cinematic abortion.
AutumnRiley78
Eminem is gay, but he will never come out of the closet. Ever.
AutumnRiley78
@Sammy Schlipshit: I think he has internalized homophobia. I used to have it as a teenager as well. I talked a lot of crap about lesbians because I couldn’t face who I was as a person.
Isn’t it ALWAYS the case that when someone is OBSESSED with gay people like Eminem, they turn out to be gay, themselves? He is absolutely gay. And I can’t help but think that doing this appearance in this movie, even in a joking way, might have been a release for him in some way. He was finally able to say it! Even though he knows people know it’s not him really coming out.
Keebler ILF
I laughed my ass off when I saw that. It was a complete surprise to me; none of
the previews I saw ever indicated that Eminem would be in the movie.
I thought Eminem’s confession was more about James Franco than Eminem.
jason smeds
Don’t you guys realize that Eminem is poking fun at you? He is poking fun at gay identity politics. He is poking fun at your entire cult.
Sammy Schlipshit
@jason smeds:
Hey douche, why are you here if we are so revolting to you? You’re the pervert. Cult my ass.
Even being an idiot, you did make a good point.
All of these allegedly str8 folks making the gays & lesbians into buffoons is all at our expense.
The true representations of us are few and far between.
Those actors/characters fly right over the heads of the viewers because in those cases we are portrayed to be the average, sometimes boring people the same as everyone.
jason smeds
Don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying that homosexuality is a cult. I’m saying that the gay scene is a cult. Eminem is poking fun at it. He’s a smart manipulator of gullible young people and knows how to market thinly veiled distaste.
Sammy Schlipshit
@jason smeds:
Just saw your follow-up post.
Oooooops, my bad. I apologize for my name calling.
Carry on.
onthemark
I thought the purple M&M was the gay one.
Alan down in Florida
What is everybody’s problem? This is a fictional moment in a scripted film that was written by Seth Rogen making fun of a variety of items. Seth and the other writers probably thought it would be funny and Eminem either thought it would be funny too or got paid a sh*tload of money for less than a day’s work. There is nothing more or less to it.
Keebler ILF
@Alan down in Florida:
So you mean Kim Jong Un doesn’t actually love Katy Perry???
Billy Budd
Is he a nice guy? His music is horrible. Is he as horrible as his music? That is what really matters.
wade.l
Why does this piece of obnoxious homophobic filth even get a mention on this site in a positive light
LadyL
@AutumnRiley78: I’m with you about halfway on that theory; I’m not convinced it’s ALWAYS the case that homophobes are closet cases. Often they are, but sometimes they are straight guys who are afraid of women, wonder about other guys, and worry that it all means that they’re gay. They see an attractive guy, quietly admire his looks or sex appeal… and worry that it means they’re gay. They go obnoxiously overboard to reassure themselves that it’s not that at all.
And in Eminem’s case they’re also not above playing to ignorance, immaturity and insecurity in other males if it means it will garner them ego-boosting fame and a shitload of money.
KiDAciDic
Honestly tired of Rogen and Franco’s “gay for laughs schtick”. Really tired of Franco’s superficial obsession with gay culture and vapid artistic statements. This is even more icing on their shit cake. Eminem’s “homophobia” has never been the legitimate (but ridiculous) concern that homosexuality corrupts the world that religious freaks and fundamentalists use. He grew up in a shit hole without the help of LGBT people. His homophobia is what I consider even worse. It plays to the basest feeling of immature, predominately white, young men who want to feel disenfranchised by women, gays and other males to deal with their own insecurities. Its basically saying “I dont hate gays, but damn is their sex disgusting and unmanly”. Its the art of appearing completely progressive and of your generation while still being able to have an easy target for your animosity.
DuMaurier
@KiDAciDic: Yours is the most interesting reply. In my experience the hostility of straight guys to (male) homosexuality hasn’t been religious but based on the fear of being “unmanned”, girly (or being seen that way) That aspect has been present even in past societies that were supposedly accepting or not particularly judgmental about same-sex relations; those Oz prison rules about the dominant “manly” position versus the submissive “womanish” go far back in antiquity (European colonizers would sodomize tribal chiefs in front of their subects to destroy respect for them) Of course it’s all about insecurity, but that’s understandable; gay boys and men are fearful of being seen as gay in a hostile homophobic environment (say, high school, as one example), so it’s only natural a straight guy would have the same fear. I’m 55, so things have changed since my teen years, but my recollection is that both straight and gay (if they could pull it off) guys would express derision and contempt for gay males, and both for the same reason: self-protection. And my environment back then was nothing like the one you describe as Eminem’s in his young years.

guys who are oil rig workers earn an average salary of $100,000 / year. He couldn’t have saved a penny of it?
Danny
To everyone who thinks that there is something disturbing about the Eminem’s’ so called homophobic lyrics (we need a word for homo-hatred instead) please understand the history and culture from which rap/hip hop has evolved. Rap music itself is homophobic because rap culture is homophobic. Rap culture is homophobic because African American culture is homophobic. African American culture is homophobic because [insert history lesson here].Bottom line is simple; Eminem is no more homophobic then any other mainstream rapper. It’s not disturbing it’s to be expected. And that is the disturbing part.

@Sammy Schlipshit: You are proving yourself to be the one who is narrow and bigoted. I understand that a lot of us were “damaged” in our youth, I had the good fortune not to be – but to paint entire groups of people as not being smart enough for sarcasm – particularly when their artistic works proves them to be VERY capable of sarcasm only gives a bad sheen to you.

I do find it amusing it’s come to this considering 13-14 years ago how controversial he was. I knew queens who turned against Madonna (someone I personally am not that crazy about nowadays because I haven’t cared for her music since Confessions) over her defending Eminem’s First Amendment right back in 2001. They acted like she had pulled an Anita Bryant when any level-headed person would’ve known Madonna would’ve turned out the biggest hypocrite on planet earth had she chastised Eminem for exercising his freedom of speech after everything Madonna herself had pulled ten years prior. I’ve never been an Eminem fan but I do think he’s toned down with age and the fact he can laugh at himself and do an “I’m gay” thing shows he’s not that bad after all… can you really picture Phil Robertson doing a mock interview where he comes out? Hell no.
bobbyjoe
Eminem performs with Elton John.
Eminem’s character defends a gay guy in his movie “8 Mile.”
Eminem pretends to come out as gay in a comedy.
And his next album will still have homophobic language all over it.
Yeah, we’ve all seen this act before.
martinbakman
If Eminem is anti-gay, why did Elton John agree to perform with him?
Sammy Schlipshit
@martinbakman:
Why would Elton perform with him? Perhaps following the same warped sense of self that allowed him to perform at rush limbaugh’s wedding.
Maybe it’s part of that whole ‘turn the other cheek’ crap.
It’s pathetic when some of our people cater to such awful humans in the belief that if the cretin only ‘got to know us’ he/she would see the light.
Balderdash!!!!!
imstraight
Okay guys, let me tell you something. The Interview was a COMEDY! He’s obviously not gay and anyone who took this scene in the movie literally should really look him up on a factual website. Oh and also, The Interview is FICTIONAL! And I read some comments above that say his music is “horrible”… well um… Plenty of people like his music including me. His music is motivational.
blackberry finn
If it shows he’s evolved on the issue, it’s hilarious. If no sincerity behind the scenario, it’s nothing less than scandalous.
MCHG
This segment of the movie is obviously meant to mock people who look into every action of a public figure, particularly homophobic ones, as evidence that they’re gay. Eminem, who is clearly straight, probably got called gay over done of his lyrics and responded by goofing on those kinds of people in a movie. Someone with Eminem’s high profile would not be able to keep a secret gay life secret for very long these days.
yynotnnh
Another straighty looking for more glamour from the gay society because he’s washed up.. So weak of him. Just as bad as Nick Jonas looking for the same attention.
nf0603
@yynotnnh: Just because he’s not on your radar anymore doesn’t mean he’s washed up. I’m sure you think Lady Gaga is fresh and relevant and his last album sold *three times* what ARTFLOP sold the same fall.
SportGuy
@yynotnnh:
Thank goodness im not the only one that feels that way about these 2 pandering idiots.
