I knew this was coming but…whatever happened to the hate crimes bill that was supposedly going to be voted on recently?
Dennis
A one fucking line post? On the site that bitches for action? Uh, this is some action…how about some action on your part listing more information on the ENDA introduction.
Dennis
@Bri:
The Hate Crimes legislation is bogged down in the Senate, because Harry Reid is fucking useless…It may be up for vote again later this summer.
Audrina
Thank you Barney, now keep the heat up of the pres and other dems.
California Voter
I just called my Representative, Jane Harman, to encourage her to co-sponsor the bill (which she had also co-sponsored in the 110th Congress). Her staffer said he didn’t see any reason she wouldn’t co-sponsor it again this year, and he said she is “very supportive of GLBT rights and gay marriage as well.” I didn’t know that my representative officially supports gay marriage. This was good news to hear.
Everyone: call your Representative today!

This could have been approved years ago if it weren’t held hostage.

@DaveO: The funniest part of this for me is that Ohio is working on the exact same bill at the exact same moment. It will be interesting to see if my state or my country actually backs my rights and which one does it first.
Alex
I wrote my Blue Dog congressman, and I’ll try to go see him (and organize others to do so as well) when he’s hear for the recess. Probably iffy, but we’ll try.

Gosh. I hope no one goes to any of those DC events over the next couple of days to lobby for ENDA’s passage. Instead, let’s all write nasty things about Barney Frank on blogs.
Bill Perdue
ENDA was introduced and passed in the house in 2007, just before the last round of elections. To prepare to fight the Republicans and recapture the bigot christian vote they’d used to elect Bush, the Democrats refused to repeal DOMA and DADT, quietly dropped the hate crimes bill after it’s passed both houses and gutted and then dropped ENDA. During that time Barney Frank accepted quite a few Republican and centrist Democrat amendments to his already essentially gutted bill, including one that would make it impossible to use ENDA to challenge DOMA.
Until we get a clear reading from Lambda Legal, the National Center for Lesbian Rights and the American Civil Liberties Union about this bill, indicating how it compares to the original ENDA, we should hold off on supporting it or condemning it.
The original bill was widely supported because it made it easier for ourselves, other minorities and women to sue. The civil rights bills of the 1970’s and later intentionally made it very difficult to sue.

Why do we need to give homosexuals yet more privileges and legal protections?
They’re always bleating about equality but it seems homosexuals feel they should be more equal than others.
