Gay rights activists and four Utah State legislators are taking the Church of LDS at its word and calling on it to support “five bills in the next legislative session that would secure, through statute, rights for same-sex couples regarding hospitalization and medical care, fair housing and employment rights or probate rights.” [KSL-TV]

Nothing I have to say to the LDS elders would be printable. As someone with half (maternal side)my family as LDS members who love and respect me as openly gay, I know Salt Lake City from my earliest years. If you wanted to challenge LDS elders, make them support draconian divorce laws, such as:
NO DIVORCE for ANY REASON for any couple with children under 18 yo. If two opposite sex parents are SO essential to raise well adjusted kids, have them put their money where their mouth is.
See how popular the elders are when they attack HETERO families.
My one Mormon cousin TWICE married and TWICE fathered a child in each marriage and divorced both wives by the time he was 19yo. GREAT FAMILY VALUES!

Well whoopie for UTAH. Perhaps the LDS will pumnp Millions and Millions of dollars to Support smae measures instituted in CA, AZ, and FL.
I don;t like you Japhry. You’re whole day of articles have been very personally slanted and bad for the Gay Community in General.

Wow, being a gay rights activist must be incredibly difficult in Utah …

@Wolf: I’d have to agree with you. His defense of the LDS church is appalling. Members of the LDS church choose to support their bigoted institution. If they felt so badly about what their church is doing/had done, maybe they should join another Mormon sect.
Why are we even going to them for help? They should be protested until they give up on the entire issue as they did with blacks in the priesthood back in the day. This is a church that _does_ respond to pressure and it would be foolish not to take advantage of that.
Don’t think the LDS chuch is just going to sit back and allow us to have rights without a fight. If not dealt with by protest, litigation, etc, until they give in they’ll be back in a couple years to oppose the next initiative, and don’t think you can out-do their funding. This is a very rich church.
