Even the Most Anti-Limbaugh Cadre Won’t Defend Wanda Sykes

Wanda Sykes’ race jokes? Those were totally funny! Her punchline about Rush Limbaugh’s kidneys failing? Not even Obama tankrunner Keith Olbermann will come to the comedian’s defense on that one. Now is that because Olbermann is a wise man, or because it’s now unofficial White House policy to distance yourself from Sykes? (Cue 1:35)

But will they defend their bigoted golden boy Christopher Hitchens who said:

“The president should be squirming in his seat. Not smiling,” he said. “The black dyke got it wrong. No one told her the rules.”

  • edgyguy1426

Holy crap, you invite Roseanne Barr to sing the national anthem, yo know what you’re getting. You have the great Wanda Sykes doing stand-up you know what you’re getting. Lighten the fuck up!

  • Zack

Wanda Sykes is a comedian who was asked to be funny – to Beltway insiders. Clearly even the most left, whom I agree with regularly, can’t just take a joke.

And I’m praying for the day that old bastard’s kidneys fail.

  • Dabq

She did her thing, and, like everything else, when the truth is told by a person of color, some get offended and start cackling.

Limbaugh hates America, and, yet, don’t take him to task for it? Shame on you Olbermann and you should take him off your daily list of worse people since he is now human in your book, LOL!.

  • afrolito

I don’t think i’ve ever found Wanda Sykes funny. Bad idea inviting her to the party.

  • The Lesbian Mafia

He is right on this, but there is not one sincere bone in KO’s body.

They give Rush the best publicity possible. When Rush critisizes Obama, it makes Obama more beloved – when President of the United States of America and subsequently comedians, return the favor ten-fold, by talking about Rush Limbaugh, a radio talk show host of all people, it is fabulous for Rush Limbaugh’s career with the right. This is not rocket science. The teevee sham of the world being right or left is a big joke. Most Americans are neither.

  • andy

I love Wanda; YOU GO GIRL!

  • OldFAQ

Isn’t this the same crowd that laughed a few years back when Dubya did his schtik of “Where are those Weapons of Mass Destruction?” Yeah, that was real funny. Hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis, thousands of dead U.S. soldiers and a country laid to waste. Limbaugh got off light with Wanda Sykes’ slam. For all those supposedly liberal media types in the audience who were rolling their eyes and mincing political correctness – fuck you.

  • ChristopherM

Wanda is a comedian doing satire about how outrageous it was to wish failure upon the nation. Anyone who doesn’t get that and is seriously outraged needs a major priority adjustment.

And for the record, I couldn’t care less whether his kidneys fail, and that is NOT satire.

  • Synnerman

Wanda did not go far enough and this two-faced bull shittery will be laid bloody and bare in her next stage show.

Olberman and his precious colleagues will continue to give her material.

I think Rush’s vitrol has screwed over far more Americans because he does not joke. Kidney failure would be too good for him.

  • Jake the libertarian

Just gonna say it hear… Wanda needed to hit the PRESIDENT on not doing anything for the gays… If she wanted to take a dig or two at Bush his minions, that is part of the game, but she missed an opportunity to call the CURRENT LEADER OF OUR COUNTRY out on not fulfilling promises made to gays.

I like Wanda Sykes and swear I have a sense of humor, but her comments about Limbaugh were irresponsible and did nothing but show the persuadable world that the media is as left wing as the right says it is.

    Let me have it…

  • atdleft

@OldFAQ: Yeah. When was that ever funny?

@Synnerman: Yes! I hope it’ll make a good HBO special. I’d pay for HBO just to see Wanda rip into all these DC hypocrites! :-D

  • atdleft

@Jake the libertarian: Huh? How does it show the media are so “left wing” when they all bash Wanda Sykes for good humor… And never criticize George Bush for joking about all the soldiers he sent off to die in Iraq for no good reason? How can the media be “left wing” when they’re always sucking up to the radical right?

  • walt zipprian

I wish his kidneys would fail too.

    His brain already has.

  • AlwaysGay

Heterosexuals can’t stand when a gay person speaks truth to power. Power to Wanda! I watched her act and it was funny.

I rather Bill O’Reilly have kidney failure or heart failure today than Rush Limbaugh because his bigotry is subtle which is more dangerous than Rush’s overt bigotry.

  • Jaroslaw

They discussed this yesterday on Mitch Albom yesterday – and this station (where I’m at anyhow) carries Hannity & Limbaugh’s programs etc. as well. Mitch’s audience isn’t nearly as conservative as theirs but it is hardly liberal.

AND …. no one was terribly upset about anything Wanda said except one obviously delusional guy who is a (recovering?) drug user and said her remarks about Rush & Oxycontin were not funny. He said there is nothing funny about the problem of addiction to drugs. To which I say stay at the rehab center and don’t listen to comedy on the radio or TV.

Me and almost everyone else who called in said, generally, it is not nice to joke about someone’s health failing, but you have to take it in context. Rush spews a lot of hate, deliberately miscontrues things and worse. He said he hoped Obama and the country would fail. Wanda pointed this out and THEN said she hoped his kidney’s would fail. Considering what he said, I think her reparte was pretty mild.

  • John

why are people being such pricks to Wanda? she said “I hope his kidneys fail” after Rush had been saying that HE hopes the country fails…and I thought it was freaking hysterical.
Why is everyone being such a DICK my lady? I love Wanda, she is very funny and everyone lighten the freak up.

  • AlwaysGay

@Chitown Kev: Thanks for bringing that to us. I am offically done with Christopher Hitchens. This is the fourth time in a year I’ve heard him say bigoted things about lesbians.

  • The Gay Numbers

The outrage by the right is fake.

  • Jeremy

I think Wanda Sykes is a loud mouth with a terribly annoying voice that is better off left unheard. She has never said anything worth listening to, and nothing she has ever said is even remotely funny. Although I believe that what she said was over the line, it should not be this big of a deal considering the worthless and rotten source or the comments.

  • Jake the libertarian

I just thought it was over the line and not that funny. And I usually like Wanda Sykes. It showed the media is left wing because most of the media power players were there and they laughed and applauded.

My main point was that she, an out lesbian, never said a fucking thing about homos… It makes me think they told her not to… Frankly I think she is a bit of a traitor for not bringing it up. I mean what the hell do we have to do to have someone get on TV and say the word GAY in front of the fucking president and make him react???

  • Jennifer

Wanda Sykes said what everybody else is thinking. Limbaugh is a fat fuck who needs to STFU. He is a seditious piece of shit. To say you want the President to fail is to say you want your country to fail.

Go WANDA and screw anyone who says otherwise, including Olbermann. You sound like a bunch of fucking Anglicans, nicing it to keep the “quiet life”. Get a pair!

  • TANK

Look, Rush Limbaugh makes over 33 million dollars a year. How can anyone who makes over 33 million dollars a year be all bad? It’s impossible, and if you disagree, you’re a vile communist.

  • dgz

Keith totally thought it was funny, but the far left is only allowed to laugh on the inside — part of being extremely liberal is faking hypersensitivity and political correctness.

btw, i thought it was totally funny.

  • Landon Bryce

    A. Wanda Sykes made me very sad by not blowing the roof off the place with gay injustice jokes. Whose choice that she avoided the topic?

    B. Limbaugh jokes not funny, outside my taste. Would infuriate me if Rush said them about her.

    C. Response to Sykes, lack of any support for her, seems sexist, racist, homophobic. If she were straight, white, male– would Olbermann REALLY be piling on?

  • atdleft

@Jennifer: Heh. It’s too bad Wanda Sykes can’t have a show on MSNBC. Olbermann’s OK, but she’s a FAR better comedian/entertainer. Whatever, let HBO give her a show before Bill Maher’s.

@TANK: Maybe because Clear Channel made a bad business deal considering how low Rush’s ratings have fallen? So who’s the “commie” now?

  • TANK

You are, commie. And clear channel makes business deals only after it sacrifices a few animals to divine the future by entrail patterns and jesus magic. Rush gets millions of listeners every day. He’s can’t be bad because he’s rich and white.

  • mylilpip

Smoke screens people. If they can keep America talking about Rush Limbaugh then people may forget that the economy has already failed, civil rights is not addressed on a federal level, and our infrastructure is crumbling.

  • Joanaroo

Hey! Alot of us straights love Wanda and would love to see her on TV more! I’m glad she said what she did! I think Limbaugh and O’Reilly should both have at least Priapism and lose their dicks since they’ve been fucking up things in the country long enough!

  • libhomo

Olbermann really wimped out. Sykes’ entire routine was funny and highly appropriate.

  • DeAnimator

Who cares- she makes those kind of jokes all time. It is only different because some black woman said something bad about some white dude and made a joke about 9-11. Get over it.

  • alan brickman

She talks like this all the time…where’s the scandal again??….

  • Puck

    I thought it was funny

  • nolehace

…she was perfect…i loved her gig…this is how she acts…why do people act surprised?…

…colbert offended just abt everybody when he was the comedian at this shindig…actually, come to think of it, i thought he was perfect too…

  • Hannah

Don’t joke about 9/11 or Rush Limbaugh’s kidneys failing.

I’ll stick to Catholic priest jokes or other kinds of pedophile jokes.

Everybody’s got their limits. She called him a druggie traitor. What the hell ever.

Does anybody know a good Hellen Keller joke or dead baby joke?

  • Jamie

I’m sure you all would have reacted the exact same way if Rush Limbaugh had wished for Wanda Sykes’ kidneys to fail. Right? If the situation were exactly the same, but the roles reversed? If a conservative wished serious medical injury on a liberal, you all would be cool with it, and would be defending that person?

    I doubt it.

Please just acknowledge that you apply a different set of standards to people based on their political affiliations. It’s so obvious.

Personally, I love Wanda Sykes and loathe Limbaugh. But that’s not the point here. The point is double standards.
