EVERYBODY Is Passing the Buck on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

harry-reid-fuck-off

The military says it’s deferring to President Obama on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Obama says he wants legislators to repeal it. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid now says there are no backers in the U.S. Senate, but if the House wants to take it up, he’d be more than happy to do something on his end. And what’s the House have to say? You can imagine where this daisy change of inaction is headed.

    We should withhold our votes and $$ from the Dems till they deliver!

  • Doug

    Harry Reed is such a bad leader of the senate!

  • Addyboo

    What’s worse is the House Speaker is Nancy Pelosi, from San Francisco. I can not fathom how her constituents can let her get away with doing nothing. Do gays not vote in San Francisco? If she gets re-elected, I will be very disappointed in you!

  • SFNative

    @prissysissy:

    And we have the right answer!

  • Sick of Whining Bitches

    @Doug:
    Thank you. Let’s spread some of the “Dem hate” around here…Harry Reid is near useless, he couldn’t “crack the whip” to get Dems in line if you GAVE him the whip AND the instruction manual. Sorry, he’s way too much of a wuss to go up against rethuglicans.

    WHY are so many people ignoring the giant rare diamond in the dark mineshaft of that interview.

    Now read this slowly. I can’t spell it out in your hand from way over here.

    Reid THEN said, “‘My hope is that it can be done administratively’. A Democratic aide later clarified that Reid was speaking about the possibility of using AN EXECUTIVE ORDER TO SUSPEND DISCHARGES or perhaps halting enforcement of the policy by changing departmental regulations within the Department of Defense.”

    Got that? Now remember how the Obazombies have been screeching like banshees for the last two months: “OBAMA CANNOT ISSUE AN EXECUTIVE ORDER TO STOP DISCHARGES! HE CAN’T IGNORE THE LAW!!” and White House Talking Bird Robert Gibbs and various Defense Department Flying Blue Monkeys have been saying, “Oh, noooo. It wouldn’t be ‘permanent’ so we’re going to keep kicking out the fags until the cows er Congress comes home.”

    Well, now the HIGHEST RANKING DEMOCRATE IN THE US SENATE has just publicly said not only that Obama CAN but he SHOULD!!!!!

    Expect a retraction or “clarification” because those screams you hear are coming from the White House basement where Reid is being Kool Aid boarded, but he SAID it, and we should hammer that fact like a stake into the heart of Obama’s betrayal of gay servicemembers, roughly 240 of whom, by the way, have been discharged since he was sworn it. More tomorrow. More the next day and the next day and the next.

    No bill in the Senate? SOOOOOO not the story. There’s been one in the House for a good four years except it’s dead dead dead until Barack of Nazareth says, “Rise Lazarus!”

    But THIS is something we can work with NOW; something that will STOP discharges NOW until Lord Obama is ready to push the Congress.

    Little Harry Reid has passed Obama the pen. It’s up to everyone else to force him to use it to sign the stop-loss order.

    GREEN PARTY 2010!!!

  • Captain Freedom

    @Addyboo: I’m from San Francisco. The problem is not gays. We vote intensely! The problem is the Democrats. Nancy Pelosi is of course, beholden to the mobster unions and their deep corrupt pockets. They control this city and their party like Communist Russia. Pelosi is extremely unpopular in this city.

    The problem??? No credible candidate will run against her! Newsom, Dufty, Ammiano, Leno…. None of them would have a chance because the DNC and every big money interest in her pocket would flood the city to crush any challenger. If those candidates ran against Pelosi they would be destroyed politically and stripped of any and all credibility.

    The most credible challenger is Cindy Sheehan… GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK! San Francisco wants to get rid of Pelosi BADLY but so far nobody has stepped up to stand up to the Wicked Witch by the Bay!

    HR 1283 is the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, introduced on March 3. It’s main sponsor is Ellen Tauscher and it has 146 cosponsors. It’s not out of committee yet.

    Let’s get this shit moving.

    Harry Reid is a 70-year-old Mormon. What, you were expecting a hug? Get real.

    Best case scenario: Reid’s indifferent to our cause and won’t do anything to help us. Worst case (and also most likely): He wants to hook our balls to a car battery and zap our nuts with electricity until we get a hard-on from looking at Marie Osmond’s “before” photos.

  • Leto

    Move One Million Registered Democratic voters to another party! Plain and simple,that will do it. That they will understand. Organize on Facebook, Myspace and Twitter. Don’t wait.. do it today!

  • shelby

    If its about Harry Reid no hits , but if it was obama’s name up there, i’m talking 300 mean spirited comments. what’s up with that. I’m a 22 year old lady so maybe i just don’t understand the emotional obama responses when people like reid have been at the hill since before obama was born and they are just as homophobic.

  • InExile

    @shelby: Reid did not make a laundry list of promises he’s not keeping!

  • Anthony in Nashville

    Queerty actually came up with an appropriate headline this time.

    Even though polls show public support for allowing gays in the military (although I haven’t seen data stating they want it to happen immediately), politicians don’t want to take the risk of being the first to advocate on this issue.

    If LGBTs and our organizations decide this is THE issue to prioritize out of political expediency (I’m still not sure how much support this has among the general LGBT community), we should withhold support from all politicians to send a message.

  • shelby

    @InExile: Obama did not enact DADT, DOMA, the gay icons named Clintons did!. Now you can downplay this fact all you want, all day, but that my friend is the truth. The white guy f*cked us over not the black dude. sorry. Now obama has to clean up Clintons mess and if he is not running first enough, then he is dubbed “the most homophobic man that was ever born”

  • mikefromSF

    @shelby: EXACTLY, EXACTLY

  • InExile

    @shelby: If Hillary was our President, we would not be having this conversationbecause she would have kept her promises. You seem to forget Obama ignoring us is nothing new, he did it in the primary. Always sending messages to us via second or third person, never directly. Did you forget the quotes on his website saying “Obama said bla bla bla” instead of directly addressing our community. Rick Warren was a signal, same with DADT being delayed, and now this wonderful DOMA brief comparing gay couples to incest, pedofiles, and spelling out we really have no reason to have rights in the eyes of the law.

    Keep drinking the Kool Aide:

    Obama needs to initiate the action and that’s that. If he doesn’t, he’s lost my vote.

  • OldFAQ

    I use to live in Nevada. Trust me, Reid’s “Sell By” date expired about 20 years ago. Technically, old Harry may run the Senate but he is totally useless and may well not survive a Republican 2010 senate challenge in Nevada. I don’t relish the thought of losing a Democratic senate seat but the opposition wouldn’t cause us any more problems than Reid already does. Time for him to dust off the rocking chair in Searchlight, NV and retire. In the meantime, keep the heat on Congress & Obama. HRC’s letter to the WH combined with last night’s Howard Dean appearance on Maddow and this morning’s NYT editorial may get things fired up. I hope San Francisco Pride has lots of political signs & banners on parade as a reminder to Pelosi that she’s not above the fray.

  • galefan2004

    @Hannah: Thank you for pointing out that bill. I wrote my congressman requesting his support.

  • galefan2004

    @shelby: DADT was not exactly what Clinton wanted, but it was as far as he was able to get. People seem to think that DADT started the policy of removing gays from the military. Before DADT, the military could probe your personal life to find out if you were gay and kick you out for it even if you were in the closet. Clinton didn’t fully back DOMA, he just understood what was going to happen if DOMA didn’t pass at the time. If DOMA didn’t pass there was no way there wouldn’t have been a push for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, and unlike the two that came later, at that point in history if all 49 states, other than MA, were forced to recognize gay marriage that amendment would have passed.

    @InExile: Hey if it helps you sleep at night. You just ignored the contents on my post. Did Clinton enact DADT and DOMA? Yes or no? If yes why dont I remember us yelling at him like we are doing Obama. Who is responsible for all the antigay law in America, most of this laws ar more than 10 years old. Buy hey whatever floats your boat. I may be young but I am not stupid

  • shelby

    @galefan2004: Ooooooh DADT is not what Clinton really wanted, bla bla bla bla. well I will always remember that Clinton thanked me for my gay vote by handing me DADT. NEWSFLASH. Obama is not responsible for this antigay policy if anything he is getting heat for what Clinton did.

  • edgyguy1426

    @Leto: Interesting idea

  • edgyguy1426

    @shelby: Clinton at least stuck his neck out for us and TRIED to make a change vis a vis gays in the military but got stomped on by the Chiefs of Staff, notably Colin Powell. Obama hasn’t even tried ‘to clean up Clinton’s mess’ but he did promise to. And THAT my friend, is the truth.

  • edgyguy1426

    @InExile: Please no more ‘what ifs’ IF Hillary were president, etc. We don’t KNOW for sure what she would have done. She had a pretty sketchy relationship with the truth at times and had shown a deceptive side. So I’m happy with the Obama choice, BUT he should be held accountable for his promises.

  • edgyguy1426

    Thanks for the Harry Reid pic, Queerty.

  • schlukitz

    “Reid did not make a laundry list of promises he’s not keeping!”

    Excellent point!

  • schlukitz

    @shelby:

    “I may be young but I am not stupid”

    Au contraire, Monsieur!

    If you really believe, like so many other ill-informed LGBT people that Clinton was anti-gay and did, in fact, push for the repeal of DADT, then you are, indeed, both young and stupid.

    DADT was the best he could get from the powers that were while he was in office and had some of you Clinton-bashers done a little reading up on your history, you would know that fact.
