Oh how the mighty fall! Chris Austin made a name for himself and his Renew Ministries as an ex-gay activist. Unfortunately, it seems Austin himself couldn’t stay “ex-gay”. The Texas-based preacher’s just been sentenced to ten years in prison for sexually assaulting a client. Truth Wins Out reports:

Truth Wins Out expressed relief today that Christopher Austin, an ‘ex-gay’ counselor in Irving, Texas, was convicted of sexually assaulting a client. Austin was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but received seven years probation, had to register as a sex offender and was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine.

The abuse apparently involved a bit of unwanted penetration.

Perhaps Austin thought he could fuck the gay away?

This isn’t the first time Austin’s been accused of anal assault. A man named Mark Hufford made similar claims back in 2001, but eventually dropped his civil suit. We’re sure he’s happy to hear Austin’s headed to the clink.

Truth Wins Out’s executive director, Wayne Besen, will certainly be celebrating. Besen released a statement which reads:

We are deeply gratified that this ‘ex-gay’ predator is no longer in the counseling business, where he exploited his position of authority to sexually abuse vulnerable clients. Ex-gay therapy is extremely dangerous and places confused clients in the hands of repressed therapists. It is a recipe for disaster.

As we have seen with Christopher Austin, Mark Foley and Larry Craig, gay people who do not learn to accept themselves act out in unhealthy ways. I hope Austin can use this experience to come out and have healthy gay relationships, so he won’t have to exploit other people.

There are plenty of lonely men in prison. We’re sure Austin will have no trouble finding himself another man -although he may have to become a bit more versatile…
