You’ve heard of praying the gay away and playing sports to expel homosexual urges, but here’s something new and even more insane: Jerking off with a pastor to “get rid of evil [gay] thoughts.”
Sounds hot if it were coming from Sean Cody press release, but not from Brent Girouex, a 31-year-old pastor caught with his pants around his ankles. The Iowa native was arrested on 60 counts of “suspicion of sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist” after several adults came forward to claim they had been molested by him as teenagers.
Girouex’s defense? He was trying out a new method of “curing homosexuality” by helping young boys gain “sexual purity” through prayer while they were having sex. He says it was his duty to “help them” by engaging in “mutual” sexual contact, and that “when they would ejaculate, they would be getting rid of the evil thoughts in their mind.”
Although he confessed to having sex with four young men beginning in 2007, at least eight have come forward claiming they were also molested. Girouex told police he had sex with one of his victims—a 14-year-old boy—between 25-50 times, though the victim now claims it actually happened between 50-100 times.
Girouex is currently free on a $30,000 bond. He’s probably not welcome in his hometown anymore, but we’re sure the Vatican has a lovely place for him to stay.

Wow this is the best one yet, I wish I would have thought of this as a teenager, I could have hooked up with so many hot priest, and I knew quite a few.

You know, what I find more disgusting is how flippant Queerty’s staff was in reporting this issue. Since Iowa’s age of consent is 16, this 14 year old boy wasn’t someone Girouex just “had sex with”; this is statutory rape. It’s disturbing that your writer(s) couldn’t share this story in a more serious tone that this situation (and these male survivors) deserve. When you compare Girouex to a bad Sean Cody porn pun for some light-hearted chuckles and dismiss the experiences many gay men have with sexual violence, you’re really doing a huge disservice to a lot of your readers. C’mon Queerty, grow up.

Well, I know a priest… he’s my friend on facebook, he is gay and always have with sex men (all adults). This is not so unusual, this kind of thing does not shock me anymore.

Quelle surprise.

Sick. This guy is revolting: castrate him please!

Seems he was using Nifty.org as a training manual.

Only a $30,000 dollar bond? I think that’s a story in itself.

“when they would ejaculate, they would be getting rid of the evil thoughts in their mind.”/i>
Has that ever had that effect on *anybody* in the history of the world?
Setting aside that it’s all a flimsy cover for statutory rape anyway, it’s interesting that it’s precisely the reverse of the usual theory that it’s stuff like this that *causes* homosexuality.

@hyhybt: Yeah, it’s called ‘grasping at straws’. That picture says it all. If there’s an internet meme for fu*ked-face, this is gonna be it. He knows he is FU*KED.

I was curious what denomination this church is. It’s Victory Fellowship Church in Council Bluffs http://vfministries.com/ . Apparently they were originally Pentecostal but now are associated with MorningStar Ministries http://www.morningstarministries.org/ which was founded by a Rick Joyner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Joyner .

Is this actually this same story dating back to 2012?? http://www.ketv.com/Wife-Condemns-Youth-Pastor-In-Sex-Crimes-Case/-/9675214/11669906/-/item/0/-/cbwrop/-/index.html

@Randall:
Since when did “most gay men” experience sexual violence? That seems very irresponsible to say given that it’s untrue. Are you one of those ex-gay gays that like to bluster around the lie that men are homosexual due to child abuse? Sure sounds like it.

got flagged so trying again… this link is good for more info on the church and story “The church tried to wipe it’s hands of the abuse.

@nature boy: Apparently it is. No wonder it sounded so familiar… and that’s good news: better an old story get repeated as new than the same thing happen again!

The real crime and tragedy here is that we rear our children by instilling a sense of secrecy and shame about sex. If we were more honest and open about sexual feelings and more accepting about its expression, then monsters such as this would be far less able to prey on the innocent. A 14 year old is in the first flush of sexuality and experiencing great hormonal changes. With know knowledge and preparation of how to handle this, he is vulnerable. My family ministers – Methodist – was my first sexual experience. He had known me since I was 13 but waited until I was 18 to act – so that I was legal. Even at 18, I did not understand all that was happening to my body.
Charles175
@Taliaferro: What you say makes more sense than anything I’ve heard so far. Even straight couples are still in the dark about teaching these things to their children. Our society, our culture teaches that sex is dirty and a taboo subject. This is a major problem. Also to take into consideration is the emotional level, the emotional maturity or the lack thereof of the individual minor in question. When I was young (mid to late 1970’s) at about the age of 15 or 16, there was this one man in the neighborhood who actually took his predatory methods always to art of skill. He would entice teenagers in the neighborhood to come and smoke pot or pot laced with formaldehyde to get them high and in turn almost always managed to bugger those he seduced, always talking in a soothing voice calling himself “the doctor of love”, this same man I did lay with twice but I never did it again as it was very painful due to his extreme thickness like a Pool ball and the fact that he did not give the shit. That’s why he had to get his victims high because I never did. I could not stand him!! On the other hand, my neighbor school friend was gang raped by him and his accomplices. This occurred after he gave me his virginity. Up until this point, my friend was great to be with and we shared many times between us but Wallace ruined it. To this day my friend no longer recognizes the love that I had for him because I am not aggressive and forceful like this. I gave him all the love I had for many many years to no avail. When I wound up in this condition of Lou Gehrig’s disease, my former friend went after someone “of legal age” to be with since I’ve been in this nursing home, I have not heard from him since. There is another side, a different story to be said as well here. After I stayed clear of Wallace (of whom is now dead) I met with this other man. I got a great feel about him, so I pursued him. He was a great guy to be around. He cared for me on an equal level, equal footing with himself. I learned from him things that I was not able to learn from my peers. But then one day when I came over, he told me that the neighbors were getting nosy and he was afraid. I did not want to see him like this nor any harm come to him so I decided to call our relationship off. I was rather sad but at least he was safe and fine. Kind of reminds me of the old movie the summer of 42′ except for the fact that Jarvis was a man and single. You see, I actually was ready for a relationship but as you yourself have expressed, some youths like yourself take a lot more time to come to this level. Since most young teenagers are not ready for this, this is why the law is as it is.
Bob LaBlah
The article states that this guy is from Iowa. However, it does not state that the incident took place in Iowa nor what town for that matter.

Thanks, Queerty. This is why I do not pout when my comments are censored. I now accept that I am only getting what I “paid” for.

Girouex is a married father of four. Since the disturbing revelations have hit the Internet, his wife Erin has spoken out against him and the reduced sentence that he received after initially getting 17 years in prison. Instead of upholding to that initial ruling, a judge decided to sentence Girouex to five years probation and mandatory sexual offender treatment. Provided he doesn’t violate the terms of his probation — in other words, victimize someone else — he will not serve a day in jail.

Apparently, the only one who was truly having evil gay thoughts was Ex-Pastor Brent Girouex.
What is it with certain priests, pastors, ministers, etc, who desire to have sex with children?
GeriHew
@Deepdow: Randall said “many gay men” not “most gay men”.
Larkin
@GeriHew: I do not believe these people have any desire to have sex with children. They are gay. They have been repressed by their families and by their church. Instead of having a normal, healthy sexual relationship with their peers, they are still gay and begin coveting teen dick, simply because it’s what’s around.
I can guarantee you that 99.99% of this would never happen if they felt free to just be themselves and be the gay person they are without the stigma of family and community.
When you ask someone to repress their natural urges, it will come out in ugly ways. This is largely where the ‘all gays are pedos’ mantra comes from.
We are not pedos, and we don’t want to have sex with kids… but your continued bullying is whats results in these people going to become a priest and the eventual molestation of children. You represss it so much that it comes bursting out at some point.
This is not a fault of being gay, but it is a result of your homophobic attitudes. That person would never have become a priest in the first place if not for your hate.
gaym50ish
Gay moralist and author John Corvino was once a candidate for the priesthood. Although he wasn’t defending abusive priests (nor am I), he wrote years later, “There’s a big difference — legally, psychologically, morally — between sex with an 8-year-old and sex with a 17-year-old. Cases of the latter type, which often involve seminarians and seminary candidates, may be an abuse of power and a violation of priestly vows, but they are not pedophilia.”
The media and the anti-gay groups contribute to the fear and hysteria about the dangers to children by not distinguishing between different types of attractions. Someone who’s attracted to older teens is an ephebophile, not a pedophile, and humans are actually genetically inclined to be attracted to people in their physical prime. But the media not only lump them all together as pedophiles but also use the term interchangeably with “child abusers” as if the attraction itself was abusive.
Don’t get me wrong — I do not think it’s moral or ethical to hit on teenagers. But Larkin is correct in saying that it has a lot to do with sexual repression by society and the churches — not to mention the requirement of celibacy for Catholic priests. They exploit naive young people because they can, and they think a kid’s guilt will prevent him from ratting on them. That often works until the kids are adults and can fathom what happened to them.
The ex-gay ministries try to tell us that abused boys become gay men. If that were true — that a boy abused by a man becomes ATTRACTED to men — why do girls who are abused by men supposedly become lesbian man-haters? It’s just one more of the illogical, unscientific pronouncements from the “experts” in the anti-gay groups.
DarkZephyr
This guy was not a Catholic Priest or a Catholic of any stripe, so the Vatican would have nothing to do with him.
2eo
@DarkZephyr: It isn’t a big jump in logic given the sheer amount of catholic [email protected] to just assume it at this point.
GeriHew
@Larkin: Why did you address your comment to me?
Cam
My guess is, the judge that is allowing him to not spend one single day in jail is in a pedophile group with this guy and is letting him off for fear of exposure.
Honestly I can’t think of ANY other reason that somebody would let a serial rapist off without one single day in jail.
Charlie in Charge
SO insane that he can do this and not spend time in jail. This isn’t exactly inconsequential.
hyhybt
@2eo: Not a big jump, but an unfair and potentially dangerous one. Unfair because of the many Catholics, including priests, who are every bit as opposed to this sort of thing as anyone else, and potentially dangerous because a spotlight makes the rest of the room dark.

@GeriHew:
Still false given the statistics.
richard5708
Whilst I find it disturbing that he took advantage of this young boy in the early stages of his development and I can make no excuses for him, the sheer number of times it happened (50-100)in the first place does raise other questions as to how self aware the boy was. I had similar experiences as a 14yr old and it was only later when I was told I was being exploited and abused, that I realised how wrong it had been. I just hope the boy hasn’t suffered damage because of something he may have thought at the time was natural.
TimSimms
@Deepdow: Randall’s post says many, not most.
TimSimms
@Cam: Maybe the “seemed older than his 14 years,” and “was as much in control of the situation” as Girouex.
Now, the judge is high-fiveing Todd Baugh.
Billysees
There are two articles here at Queerty about this story.
It would be interesting to know what was the judge’s reasoning in sentencing for 17 years and then offering sex offender treatment.
The article mentions “mutual” sexual contact. That sounds like side-by-side masturbation and no anal sex involved.
Did the judge consider that these offenses reportedly occurred between 50 and 100 times, and at some point doesn’t mutual consent enter into the picture ?
With those numbers, mutual consent now sounds possible or reasonable.
Does that change anything ?
hyhybt
@Billysees: It changes nothing, because legally, underage people CANNOT CONSENT. Therefore it cannot possibly, under the law, have been mutual consent.
Daniel-Reader
It is appalling the legal system permits pastors to harm gay children and get away with it. The judge should be named and shamed.

I wasn’t aware of what your answer here points out. Sounds right.
But I’d still like to know more about what the judge took into consideration and why he made the decisions he did.
There are things this article doesn’t bring out.

I think there’s something in it that many can relate.
