The countdown to the July 12 release of American Heretics continues, and we just scored an exclusive clip.
The new documentary film by directors Jeanine and Catherine Butler follows a group of ministers in rural Oklahoma working to kill the notion of the Republican Party as the “Christian” party. The movie focuses on several Oklahoma churches, including the Mayflower Church which started performing same-sex marriages long before they became legal in the state. Doing so sent a message of the church as a place of inclusion and love, rather than one of judgment. Much to the delight of the leadership, the church actually underwent a significant expansion as a result.

In an era of polarization, bigotry and corruption brought on by the Trump Administration, American Heretics aims to take Christianity back from the forces of hate, and make America love again.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
American Heretics opens in theaters July 12.

Being pro or anti gay and being religious requires you to cherry-pick your religious books.
Neither is any better than the other, they are both delusions.

Except one is hateful and bigoted and the other isn’t.
But nice try on “Both Sidesing” it.

@Cam
It’s interesting to notice that you don’t understand what “both sider-ism” is.
There aren’t two sides to religious belief. Only the one.
Now, had I stated that atheists and theists are all the same and all homophobic, then THAT would have been both sider-ism. But that is clearly not what I wrote.
The issue I pointed to is that BOTH pro and anti LGBT religionists are cherry-picking from their “sacred” books. The simple act of having to cherry-pick demonstrates that the very foundation of the belief is flawed. Ergo, religionists – regardless of their stance on LGBT equality – are delusional.

This is my church. I am thankful for Mayflower and their ministry to the LGBTQ community in Oklahoma City.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
I really, really, really wish our community would mount a strong campaign publicing some of the crazy thit in the Bible to throw in the noxious, abhorrent, vile smcubags who cherry pick obscure passages from that smcubag closeted Leviticus to “justify” their bigotry and hatred….
Such as:
If your teenager talks back to you YOU MUST KILL THEM
If your wife is not a virgin on your wedding night. YOU MUST KILL HER
If dear old Mom wears “gold and baubles” YOU MUST KILL THE POOR OLD THING!

Homophobes? They’re merely bigots. Trying to pretend religion doesn’t want to anything but kill us. It’s prescribed.
