Straight television characters are just so boring sometimes! They sleep with their exes, their friends, their friends’ exes. Sometimes they get married, have kids, divorce! Other times they stay single, drink to excess, pine for the one that will never have them! But as soon as you introduce A Gay Character onto your television show, like BBC sitcom My Family is doing, you become “edgy and relevant.”

I’m sorry? This is the land that gave us Monty Python, Are you Being Served, and Little Britain. BBC programs introducing a gay character hardly makes them edgy and hasn’t for years.

I once read a review of the teen novel “Boy Meets Boy” by David Levithan that described it as “edgy.” That was hilarious. If you’ve never read it, it’s basically what you’d end up with if you combined kittens and cotton candy and then turned that into a book.

The character who is about to come out on the show is played by Gabriel Thomson who was picked to play Harry Potter before Daniel Radcliff. As to his character on this show I always saw him and gay no surprise he’s “coming out” on the show.
