Gay dads who split so one could date daughter’s ex-bf shot a reality show pilot and it’s…something

Wow. Just…wow.

This week we got reacquainted with the Drewitt-Barlow family. Husbands Barrie and Tony live in Tampa, FL with their five kids. Except now Barrie plans to marry Scott, who is reportedly the ex-boyfriend of the couple’s only daughter, Saffron.

We joked that the only logical next step for the family is a reality show, and were more than a bit surprised to now discover a pilot has already been produced.

Family by Design is chock full of cringy manufactured drama, as well as the revelation that Scott isn’t only Saffron’s ex-boyfriend, he’s also employed (or at least he was when this video was produced) as a personal assistant to Barrie and Tony.

“Scott’s been with us for five years and he came as my personal assistant,” Tony tells the camera, “but really he’s almost like one of the family now.”

In once scene, Tony and Barrie tell the kids their biological mother is coming over for dinner, whom they have never met. The kids are understandably uncomfortable having this sprung on them, so Tony does what every good dad would do — points a knife in his daughter’s direction and says “I’ll knock that smile right off your face if you start tonight, girl, ’cause I’m not in the mood for it at all…I can’t believe you’ve started this today.”

Then he makes a request of Scott, aka his husband’s boyfriend: “Scott, just for one night, with one of our guests coming into the house, can you please not flirt with them? Just take a back seat and remember your place.”
