GaymerX, the LGBT videogame convention that melted our hearts last summer, has big big news: they’re getting into game development. And they need your help.
Their new project is “Read Only Memories,” which they describe thusly:
A New Cyberpunk Adventure Game for PC, Mac, Ouya, iOS, & Android. …
You’re a young journalist trying to hack it on your own in Neo-San Francisco. It’s a tough city, but you’re a tough nut. One day you receive a package containing a beta version of the latest ROM, an intelligent device that has replaced all personal mobile technology. With the ROM lay a mysterious note from a close friend, saying that he had to leave the country immediately. Weird.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Yes, weird.
“Although this game has queer content in it and queer characters, it is not a gay game,” says Matt Conn, who explains that queers will simply be presented on an equal footing with straight characters. Honestly, that in itself is pretty innovative, considering how poorly the game industry tends to include LGBTs.
It’s probably also worth pointing out that a lot of the behind-the-scenes folks on this project are queer themselves. And the logo of the game has a pink triangle, for crying out loud.
This is a bit like Comic-Con producing its own comic book (which they kind of do) or D23 making an animated short (yet to happen, but it would probably be rad) so we’re curious to see where this goes. Chip in a couple bucks if you want to make some dreams come true.
boring
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Unless your stretch goal includes a console version, your video game Kickstarter can suck my dick.
Daveliam
@boring: Well then this one should be right up your alley because their stretch goals DO include a PS4 and XBOX One downloadable version. But then, I’m sure you already knew that, right…..?
boring
@Daveliam: Hahahah, not even gonna bother with the previous current gen hardware? I’m not upgrading my system for a solid year until they get all the kinks out. But yes, you completely caught me in an act of dickery and not reading things.
Nearly a cool half-mil for a Vita version is insanity.
Daveliam
@boring: Ha! I totally love how you own your random act of dickery! Well played!
BTW, I totally agree that over $400k for a Vita version is cray. But, I’m hoping that the console versions just get released on PSN and Xbox Live, so you can download them on either the current or next gen. I’m not sure it’s going to be out soon (late 2014), so I think a lot of people will be on the next gen consoles by then anyway.
