Extreme right-wing troll/”free speech” warrior Ben Shapiro accidentally came out as gay on Twitter this week.
It all started when Ana Navarro tweeted about a conversation she had with her gay friend about the Supreme Court leak.
“My best friend is a gay man,” The View co-host tweeted yesterday. “He called me this AM asking, ‘How can the Supreme Court do this? I thought established law meant they couldn’t go back and overturn things that had already been decided. Does this mean we have to be worried the rest of our lives?’ Good question.”
Shapiro, who believes homosexuality should be listed as a mental illness and opposes all things LGBTQ, shared Navarro’s tweet, along with his own poorly-worded response, writing: “As a gay man, I have been reliably informed he cannot [have an] opinion on this, and you should have told him to shut up.”

Like everything he does, it’s poorly written. However, I think he’s trying to say that a gay man doesn’t get to have an opinion on the decision because he’s a man. This would be more clear if he said “As he is a gay man”, but I suspect that Ben wouldn’t be able to afford a quality editor to make his stuff more readable.

This is so weird because I thought for a long time that the reason why he was so famous (infamous?) was BECAUSE he was a gay, outspoken right-wing conservative. When I found out he was straight and married I was completely shocked. In fact, this is my comment I posted on this exact site back in 2020:

What Ana’s friend probably meant by “being worried” is that we, as gay men, need to be worried the Supreme Court will now reverse its fairly recent decision about gay marriage and declare that illegal, too. No one should be shocked by what the Court is about to do; the right has been carefully planning this for at least 20 years, and they needed that asswipe trump to place three mediocre judges onto the Court who’d guarantee we become a “shithole country.” Elections have consequences; there’s no excuse for us to not vote this Fall. Shapiro is one of several commentators/pundits on the far right who see this as the first step towards reversing Obergefell. And a number of gone even further, suggesting that Lawrence v. Texas, Loving v. Virginia and Brown v. Board of Education should also be reversed. This would undo most of the social progress of the late 20th century and make us even more of a laughingstock among the developed nations than we were under Trump and Bush. Not to mention all these laws would allow states to demonize and penalize those who do not have the means to easily leave.
The right truly wants to drag us back into the 19th century or further.

Have to make it clear that Ben Shapiro does not speak for more than 15-20% of Jews. Even among the Orthodox views about reproductive choice are nuanced and varied, as Jewish law (Halacha) is clear clear on when personhood is conferred (when the fetus gains a “soul”), but not as clear on damage to the fetus. And Jewish law strongly tends to favor the needs of the mother, family and community. He is very much in the minority.
