Gay Saudi Man’s Punishment For Being Gay? Oh, Just 500 Lashes And 5 Years In Jail

One man will receive 120 lashes for blackmailing a disabled woman. A journalist will get two months in prison and 50 lashes for supposedly instigating protests against a state electric company; he’ll be whipped in front of the company’s offices. And another man will get 500 lashes for trying to blackmail an ex-girlfriend into dating him again with threats of publishing photos of her. And then there’s the man who Saudi Arabia will reward with 500 lashes and five years in prison for being gay. The 27-year-old was convicted — by the sadists at the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice — of “practicing homosexuality” and sharing photos online and via mobile phone of him wearing women’s underwear. He also received a fine of more than USD$13,000.
