Gays often gripe about how straight people stereotype them. It would appear, however, straights aren’t the only ones who like a little prejudgment. Consider this letter to Southern Voice:
In regards [sic] to the Michael Vick dogfighting case… You won’t find one gay man amongst that group of men that gather to watch dogs rip their throats out. It is something that straight men do, and I think it is very sad that newspapers and news stations are missing that important part of the story. Gay people don’t do these things.
They have been coming after us for years over this and over that, and it is about time we focus that right back at them. It is their bad behavior that should be highlighted. Your paper should have the courage to focus right in on it.
Yow! And homeboy needs to have the courage to break out of his gay bubble and meet some straight folk.

um, i don’t know if i’d really be bothered all that much if i went to one (there’d be a possibility i’d bet, i guess); i’d feel bad for the dogs though..
i’ve been to cockfights (lulz) before in Mississippi/Louisiana when i was 14.
does that make me half-gay or something?
then again, i like mishima novels so maybe i’m a little “crazy”…
and i’m sure there’s some worth in the quote, if anything about masculinity vs femininity in our “gay lifestyle”, maybe there really is something to being queer, but i digress, sorry.

Right, one would think looking at this website (and Joe.My.God) that the majority of homos and dykes aren’t also ugly trolls with rolls of fat around their tummies and brains.
As opposed to the neverending “eye candy” that homo journalistas promote as the norm… unattainable goals for most cuirs that weren’t that cute to begin with.
Oops.

Umm… maybe you should read what the guy actually said. While I think its silly to imagine that gay men are immune to any forms of cruelty, the quoted article DOESN’T suggest that all straight men are into dog fighting. Seriously, how many gay men do you really know who wouldn’t mind a little blood splatter on their chino’s?
ProfessorVP
I believe it’s true that gay men and all women, straight or gay, would have no interest and get no pleasure from dogfighting, and although it’s hard to gather stats from this illegal “sport”- I think it’s likely to be a 100% straight male phenomenon. But it’s quite different to say that 100% of straight men are cruel pervs, which the writer actually didn’t say.

That’s because gay men are such bitches.

I dunno, if I had a lot of money and celebrity going for me, I could see myself engaging in heinous behaviour. Probably not pitting dogs against each other, but that’s just because I hate the idea of losing.
It’s not hard to imagine that being queer and being involved in minority polemics influences my sense of decency, but I doubt my sexual and personal preferences stop me from committing acts of animal cruelty.
You know, apart from eating the meat of slaughtered livestock.

Violence is the underlying theme of the human condition, whether gay, straight, bi or try. I don’t see why SoVo should try to create a gay angle out of the story.
Bill Perdue
I think it’s ok to make the point that violence agianst animals is horrific and demeaning but I think it’s wrong to latch on to what is really a minor news story because of the race of the man involved. I’d feel much more comportable if every one who got into an uproar over this were demanding that Bush and Cheeney were indicted by the House, convicted by the Senate and then put at the disposal of an International War Crimes Tribunal.
