We’re totally crushing on Javier Fernández after watching him compete in the Figure Skating Men Short Program last night.
The 26-year-old from Spain (who goes by Javi for short) had us swooning as he channelled his inner Charlie Chapman by wearing a fitted black blazer embroidered with a flower and performing to the soundtrack of Chaplin’s 1936 film Modern Times.
Watch the flawless performance here.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
And we weren’t the only ones swooning over Javi’s routine either…

I AM SO PROUD OF JAVI! Flawless quads, infectious charisma, Javier Fernandez is the whole package. I adore his openness, his sincerity. Sure, he's a little bit of a cornball, but too many skaters forget they have the power to make an audience SMILE. Bravo! ?? ??

Javi ultimately landed second place for his performance, behind Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu. The free skate competition later today will determine medals for the competitors.

Get a life (other than social media) and some history along with it.

do you not know how to use google?

Well, i supposed twitter forgive him for what he said before Sochi.
CanadianGuy62
Maybe, just like he thinks we should all “lie low” (i.e. stay in the closet) Queerty should keep its fawning for him in the closet as well.
The Sochi Games…where Cassocks beat LGBT protesters and sponsors simply responded, meh. I no longer watch Olympic events.

when you mention ‘the ass of an angel’ it would be nice if you’d actually show it, even in some tightie-whities. and i’ve never seen a skater who doesn’t have a nice ass.
CanadianGuy62
I saw Brian Orser’s bare butt in the communal shower at the Y in Toronto in the 90s. I was shocked at how singularly unattractive it was.
Spandex can make many an ugly butt look perky and rimmable.

This was me. Adam who? While Adam has an amazing ass, he’s too extra. That whole between an elmo and Reese Witherspoon I’m a Meryl Streep bit. Even this gay didn’t know what TF he was talking about. As soon as I saw Javi Fernandez come on I was like yesssss!!!!!!
Bradsman
Ok he’s seriously gorgeous. And the writer of this article really doesn’t know who Charlie Chaplin was?
CanadianGuy62
I’ve no doubt he doesn’t know who Charlie Chaplin is. From what I’ve read on this site, basic intelligence doesn’t seem to be a pre-requisite for getting a job as a reporter…or blogger (or whatever they’re calling themselves).

Javier Fernandez said:
“The games are sport, not politics. I have my own opinions and I won’t get involved in what anyone else thinks, but I do believe you have to respect the laws of the countries you visit. It’s not such a big dilemma. It’s better if homosexuals (athletes) don’t make such a meal of it at the games.”

While I agreed with Fernandez’s suggestion for gay athletes to “lay low” at Sochi as sound practical advice, I didn’t like his reasoning. He wasn’t saying to lay low for safety, but rather, that it was the ethical and moral thing to do. No one was suggesting that gays go around disturbing the peace. But staying silent when basic human rights are violated is cowardice. And that was the problem. The Russian laws are such that merely saying you’re gay or holding a same-sex partner’s hand can be interpreted as promoting homosexuality — especially if you’re a celebrity.
It was particularly surprising given that Fernandez is a young Spaniard in a very gay sport. Spain was the 3rd country to have marriage equality, and millennials are overwhelmingly gay-positive. And needless to say, he is surrounded by openly gay men, including coach, Brian Orser, and former choreographer, Jeffery Buttle — both Olympic medalists. I doubt that he’s even remotely homophobic, but expressing such an opinion was surprisingly stupid, even if he felt it.

No love for the other medalists from Japan? They gave equally amazing performances.

One day a sumo wrestler or linebacker will come out as gay, and it will be fun watching Queerty and the other sites figure out how to keep pretending these stories are about sports and not just about celebrating conventionally attractive people you want to f**k. Also, this guy is a jerk, and you’re promoting him because apparently he has a nice ass.
