Hard to know what to make of the trailer for upcoming series Heathers, based on the classic 1988 jet-black comedy starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. Whereas the original revolved around a clique of beastly blonde bitches making lives a living hell for their gawkier peers, the new iteration involves an altogether different league of hateful high schoolers.

Heather McNamara (Jasmine Mathews) is an African-American lesbian. Heather Duke (Brendan Scannell) is a male character who identifies as genderqueer. Heather Chandler (Melenia Field) apparently has the body of Martha Dumptruck from the original film. The underdogs are now the top dogs, apparently. So will they still be picked off one by one?
We have to admit, we have a bad feeling about this. What’s our damage, you ask? This:

The person guiding this show said that they had never even seen Heathers when they were approached to adapt the movie into a series. The whole “queer version of Heathers” comes off very try-hard and trendy and not in vein with the movie. Heathers is an extremely ironic and dark movie. Are they gonna have the balls to be self-critical of “queer culture” and have the balls to make these character genuinely fvcked up a-holes and are they genuinely going to be offing people? Winona’s character is still just a regular pretty white straight girl? Would have been far more interesting if that character was a gay dude or masculine girl now. So, ultimately, the “regular” sympathetic lead is in a sea of self-absorbed, abusive “queers” and being tortured by them? And what the hell is a Paramount Network? And will this even be funny? This is something that could be brazen and enthralling if done properly but not good feelings at all.

I guess Hollywood writers have hit a block. They cannot seem to come up anything original and only are able to do reboots.

Hollywood writers are working part-time now. The studios had to cut payroll to increase the profit margins. Which explains all the reheated, leftovers from 25 years ago.
Ummmm Yeah
Looks like a complete disaster. I don’t think anyone involved ever watched the original to know what it was about.

So in other words, the lgbts and the overweight people.are the twisted evil people and the pretty white girl is the hero. Because if there is ANYBODY who is put upon in High School is the attractive kids. LOL
Yeah, sounds like Hollywood.
