Joining the list of “Things That Happened,” George Takei had a pleasant lunch with Donald Trump. The fact that anyone, anywhere had a pleasant lunch with Donald Trump is already cause for head-scratching, but the two also had a pleasant conversation. About gay marriage.
Oh myyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
Takei described the encounter via his Facebook:
Friends, I had lunch with Donald Trump today at the Trump Tower Grill. It was a lively and engaging hour-long conversation that touched upon his personal position on marriage equality. He confided that he recently attended a same-sex wedding and that he’d found it “beautiful.”
I remarked that NY is now a marriage-equality state, and that after all, marriage is better for business! Minds are changing across America, and I am always ready to speak to those ready to listen. I hope that my chat with The Don might have some effect on his stance on the subject.
Well, if anyone could make the heart of the Grinch Who Stole Combovers double in size it would be George Takei, whose heroic LGBT advocacy is already the stuff of comic book legend.
How about we take this to the next level?

Trump makes me sick and I wanna die. I went to a preview and he was there. In person? He puts the UG in ugly. With his money you would think he could have better hair. People like that are so full of themselves. He is the only person that I want to punch in his ugly orange face. My respect for George is now gone. Brown nosing queen!!!!!!!!

@Dumdum: Co sign. Lost respect for George on this.

What Mr. Takei did was useless. You can’t reason w/ a low-life scumbag like Trump. Money can’t buy you class.

Rather than jump on George for trying, remember that his attitude has always been to engage the opposition. Yes, Trump has been an idiot lately, particularly with his unseemly grudge he has for the President, but George’s way has always been to take any opportunity and use it to gain whatever advantage possible. One of the arguments that won over popular opinion in New York towards marriage equality was the business angle. Simply put, the entertainment and hospitality industry see it as money in their pocket. Trump is a large part of that in this area so the pooints George made should resonate. Don’t beat up on the man for trying, he is the eternal optimist. I remember at a Star Trek convention at the Americana in 1974 he pointed out that the Constitutional process should be allowed to play out with Nixon and Watergate and that resignation would not be good for the country. He was booed by some for saying that, yet history proved him right. Now, if he’s only end this silly fued with Bill Shatner. I think he would find a kindred spirit, since The Negotiator grew up Jewish in a very Catholic (and rather anti-semitic) Montreal in the 1930s.

If Takei had nothing better to do,,,,
Otherwise, what a waste of time
