With debates around school textbooks and the passing of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill in Florida, some on the far right are increasingly accusing members of the LGBTQ community of wanting to “groom” children.
This disgusting, dog-whistle of a claim conflates LGBTQ rights with pedophilia.
Using the term “grooming” to discuss LGBTQ issues in the school curriculum also detracts from the serious issue of pedophiles who actually do target and groom kids.
Actor George Takei, who turned 85 last week, tweeted the perfect response over the weekend. He reminded people about how gay kids are usually brought up in a wholly heterosexual environment and it does nothing to change their sexuality.
“They ‘groomed’ me to be heterosexual, you know. It didn’t change a thing. Still gay as a rainbow sprinkle-covered cupcake,” he said.
Takei’s tweet has had over 200,000 likes and thousands of comments.

Last week, Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow (D) made headlines after a Republican colleague sent an email to supporters accusing McMorrow of “grooming” children. A furious McMorrow responded with a fiery speech in the Senate, blasting Senator Lana Theis (R) over her choice of language.

I am wondering what the recall of the teachers in San Francisco has to do with the Florida law that DeSantis signed. People are repeating such sayings, accusing others of what you stated in the above statements. Have you really thought of these statements? The danger is from people who make up such statements AND those who repeat without really thinking about what they say.

I think that very limited amount of sexual information need be given to k-4 students I can’t be against what material teachers have that they use to talk about sex to the K-3 age children because I have no idea of what it is.
The opposition against whatever sex theme material is being taught is likely to be similar to the opposition against CRT material being used in schools when such was not being taught and at the beginning of the nonsense against CRT a number of school teachers and boards first became aware of CRT when upset idiots besieged them demanding that all CRT material be removed from their schools.
There is a Republican candidate who made such claims of Bidden wanting to do harm to children. It was copied and sent to many others. Why aren’t the supporters of the folks who make up, or use, such toxic lies not turning against the liars?
I have only been registered as a Republican. That was mostly because I grew up in North Carolina (a state in which Republican politicians are competing with those of Florida, Texas and etc. to be the worst type of people) when the Democrats were racists who were against equality. But in the 1970s the Republican Party had become a lot different than it was before. After relocating and re-registering I selected Independent. Before in NY City there were many Republicans candidates who were decent people and I could vote for them. Now, there is no way I would vote for many of the Republicans. Especially, those who are willing to ignore facts and support Trump.
I don’t understand how any person who consider themselves to be decent can continue to support Trump and other [mostly] Republicans.

2) You conveniently forget that slavery and segregation were instituted, cultivated and defended by Democrats.
3) The KKK was created by and filled with Democrats.
4) Today, racism still prevails in the Democrat Party because it has low expectations for blacks and Hispanics: they even need affirmative action and quotas to succeed because they don’t have the native intelligence and drive to do so on their own.
5) Democrats believe blacks and Hispanics need to be held to lower standards because they’re not capable of good behavior, therefore, law enforcement must be lenient towards them.
6) Democrats believe that they know best what blacks and Hispanics need: like welfare, food stamps, and Medicaid instead of good education and good jobs.
7) Democrats believe that only they can “save” blacks and Hispanics from poverty. When, in my opinion, blacks and Hispanics are fully capable of saving themselves; they’re not weaklings.
8) Even black Muslims and black nationalists believe that the Democrats have created a political plantation on which they must serve the white liberal ‘massa.’
