The brand new remake of the Broadway musical Annie, starring Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz, had its first official preview in an exclusive first look on ET this week.
The new Annie will mostly follow the classic storyline, though a few modern twists are in order. For one, Miss Hannigan appears to be sober:
…everything’s about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) – advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) – makes a thinly veiled campaign move and takes [Annie] in. Stacks believes he’s her guardian angel, but Annie’s self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it’s the other way around.
The film is produced in part by music moguls Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Jay-Z. Unfortunately, there’s no mention of the lovable Punjab anywhere 🙁

I liked The Wiz better than the original Wizard of Oz so lets see if this remake Annie will do the same.

No one can top the original Annie a classic too this day.

I don’t think their intention is to “top the original” neither was the Wiz. I think the intention is to re-tell a great story through a modernized lens. It’s like trying to compare Nicholson’s performance to Ledgers. Two different times, two different interpretations, both great performances. People will decide which is their favorite, but I don’t think one seeks to outdo the other….just sayin lol

PS wouldn’t it be great to see Adele Dazeem in this!! Fingers crossed!!!

So this trend of making white characters black is here to stay? I’d love to see the reaction to a remake of “In The Heat Of The Night” with a white cracker cop having to deal with a southern black sheriff.
